Yeah, I think you once said "signing is signing" and "announcing is announcing".

It's that kind of content that keeps me coming back.

Tbf I reckon you could probably count on your fingers the amount of good performances Metcalfe had after the Jan window closed. That spell between Nov and Jan he looked an absolute gem, but something certainly dropped off and changed after the interest.

Felt inevitable this window, but we've got a good fee and he's got his next career move. Win win. Although I do feel like this one is a little like Tyreik going to Plymouth, just in that I think Metcalfe could do with another year in L1 rather than going straight to the Champ as he doesnt look ready for that level. Hopefully I'm wrong and the lad jumps into the Champ and is great, but I wouldnt at all be surprised to see him loaned out in 6 months.

Definitely. He only completed 90 minutes twice in his last 10 games for us.

Its our highest fee for a player in probably the last 15 years

yes I would've liked Metcalfe to stay. Another year with us under his belt and we’d be tripling the money, but at the end of the day, it’s just as much a risk that he regresses and his value drops. Add to the fact we aren't the biggest spenders in the division, id say it was a smart move

those funds will reinvest in the squad. A new goalie, a new CB, potentially a new full back, 3 CMs and another attacker. It’s with the hope we go for quality over quantity. The signing of Beesley and Imminent signings of Phillips and Dempsey are indicators of that

Good players don’t leave ambitious progressive clubs. If we’d thrown the kitchen sink at promotion post Xmas and we’d gone up, I doubt either would have left.
Moving forwards we as fans should rightly expect that the whole of the transfer income plus the new sponsorship money plus higher season ticket sales is all spent on the pitch.

His performances fell off the face a cliff, i guess it didn't help with the style of play we used after December. I don't think his mind was adversely affected, just a big drop in form. There is always that worry his form in those three months was a blip but then investing in players is always risk averse. On the flip side if he develops with them they could have a player worth way more in value.

Fair points, the January window was a failure in that it didn't improve us bar Jackson.

They do if the club is in a higher league than you, or they have a bond with the club they are joining aka Power
You then have to make sure you get reasonable recompense
You have no idea where club finances were last January and even if we had a kitchen sink to throw at it and what happens if the sink went down the plug hole

Well its a shame we won't watch Jenson develop but it's the same move Meredith made, and shows Millwall sign sensibly.

Is he good enough for rather Championship? That will depend who is around him I suppose, but he certainly has time to get good enough. The potential is there.

Sign the Barnsley lad and Wintle and I think we've done okay replacing our CM duo, but another option would be very welcome.

And the annual losses of £2-3m even with brilliant attendances ?

Wrong point, but a £2m loss is probably considered a good season financially for a lot of L1 clubs these days.

Unfortunately the state of football as it is, you need someone who is happy to write off a minimum of £2m-£3m per season to stay afloat. Sorry state of the sport, but losing millions per year is now just the norm.

All this money losses needs to stop and the salary cap and players wages needs a complete overhaul
We now have Hull having to sell players to balance the books, after paying out promotion bonuses, despite earning the millions from promotion and Leeds looking at suing Leicester over their promotion and Leeds playoff failure from a few seasons back, on top of the Everton having to pay Burnley because of their overspending
This is just getting stupid and lots of fans to blame by demanding their clubs spend more then they earn

According to some, the sustainability model we used to have was good and we'd be bust as soon as we made a loss and they were grateful to Rupp for that. Even with these losses we can't afford the best of the best, but without those loses we'd still be in league 2. Thank god for those fans who put pressure on the club to change, even if some still mock them.

I don't condone the way football is run FYI, it's a sad state IMO and well past it's working class roots. But sadly, losing money is the only way to compete.

Running a business to lose money, would not be tolerated outside of sports
You would be wound up in court and barred from being a director in the future
Football should not be any different and just accepting that losses are the norm is wrong
The league bring in the protocols around spending and in my view you should only be allowed to spend % of what you earn, with no owner dodgy loans or under the table dealings
