They both had good seasons individually, but I'm not sure we can say they complimented each other that well, we were quite one dimensional in midfield and lacked some real drive and creativity. I was actually hoping Metcalfe would morph into Power's role and we'd sign someone with a different profile to play alongside him.

 

When they played as a pair, I don't think we managed anymore than and average of 1.5 points per match.

Correct, and they didn't really start playing together regularly until 3 months into the season either.

 

No issue with this it’s how it should be we invested and now getting dividend. Lack of continuity worries me in the middle and the fact we will hopefully have some cash to splash worries me as we ain’t got the best track record

Firstly, the lack of continuity in the middle last season didn't seem to do us any harm.
Secondly, we didn't have Sharpe last time we had a windfall.

They mentioned in the press release they've been following his progress for years since he was at Everton. Obviously see a player they can improve on and were willing to back that potential with a sizeable transfer fee.

 

Saying that Metcalfs gone to Millwall for a 7 figure fee, as we know the minium 7 figure fee is 1 million, anyone know the actual fee.

If it is £2m, that represents fantastic business for someone who was a first team starter for half a year. Hopefully at least some of it is spent on trying to do the same again.

 

If the fee is as high as the 2 million, which I doubt it is,
Great that Phillips is rumoured to be all but signed, I would like to see us go for a few younger lads who potentially have a sell on value if and when they succeed.
Someone like Cameron Humphreys who is at Ipswich and out of favour, I have seen a few people mentioning the young lad released from Newcastle Alfie Harrison and Darren Palmer (my mates lad lol)

If its true that we sold power and received around £150k for him having a year left on his contract do we not think the fee for Phillips will be something similar (maybe 50/75k more as younger) as his contract situation is similar. Supposedly the fee for Beesley was £250k and I really can't see us paying more than that for Phillips.

 

Some Barnsley fans on twitter think we're paying 300k for Phillips. Cant find sod all that it's based on. You'd think it's the £200k-£300k ball park though.

 

If we sold Power for £150k that’s the best bit of business seen at VP for years . Add to that the saving of a years wages. Yes he will have cost us a signing on fee but don’t all free agents? Quids in on the deal we made with him coming back from the wilderness. Top marks Mr Sharpe. And now Jenson Metcalf !

 

Good fee for Metcalfe. The Fee for Power and probably a further fee for Leigh when he moves to Bristol. We are in the money

 

Can't see us getting much for Leigh. Think if he does end up at Rovers it will be more about them taking over the remainder of his contract rather than money upfront.
