What notification's are you getting

 

The automatic notifications do only notify those taking part. You were being notified on my manual posts where until the first match kicked off I was manually tagging last season's regular prediction league participants group as these were the ones who would likely take part. Once the first match kicked off my manual tags swicthed to the World Cup 26 group

 

I dont think we can filter new posts , While its the off season and little happening I dont think there that intrusive

 

There used to be a add-on that allowed users to choose to ignore certain prefixes automatically so you could have just ignored the whole prefix but it seems the author deleted it and I also can't find it in the usual places that you can sometimes pick up copies of dead add-ons.

I haven't got time right now but if I get some time I might see about creating a 'Prediction League' user that makes all the posts (although I might need to set that as an admin user for it to work) and then you can just ignore that user for the tournament which should hide the threads, And then at the end of the season you can unignore it for the regular prediction league

 

You shouldn't be. I just checked all my test accounts which between then have pretty much every different setup possible and only the ones I used to test the new Portal have got notifications on the last 2 posts, another couple that tested the regular one last season got match 1 and 2 notifications but not the last 2 and the ones who have never played didn't get any of them

 

Its how I would like to do it but Simon likes it to start off in City talk because that gets the most traffic and as such more participants

 

The problem is when we had it in a sub-forum every game week I would get DM's saying 'I couldn't find the thread so I wasn't able to submit' because one of the problems with forums. Most people don't use the New Posts feature, they have the one or maybe two subforums they use and they never check any others. And Entry numbers were lower and dropped off quicker.

It's why one of the forum platforms designed their platform to not have sub-forums like most have, the sub-forums basically work as tags or prefixes. You get one list of threads from every sub-forum and you can then filter it but before you do that you see a list of threads from every sub-forum and actually most people don't even take the filtering step just like most don't click on New posts and most forums that have switched to that do report all threads get more activity using it.

And just look at the example of my post asking if there would be interest in a World Cup prediction league with the fact that the Time difference makes it a harder watch than one in Europe. Only a fraction of those who are now taking part actually replied and actually about half of them didn't even view the thread which highlights even if I tag people so they know the thread is there the lower traffic of the General Football forum gets less traffic.

 

Ok Ignore the user BantamTalk and you shouldn't see the threads. Just remember to remove the ignore when the World Cup is over if you want to take part in the normal one again

 

I have tried that but new posts still shows the world Cup threads

 

Damn. Guessing it only ignores the initial post and not any replies.

Well that was a waste of a couple of hours then

 

What about starting a subsection for prodiction league with a redirect in City talk... then we just ignore the subsection

 

If you want it in a single thread then give me your email address and I'll invoice you for the cost to rework the whole framework and when I receive payment from you I'll do it. Otherwise just ignore the BantamTalk user until the end of the World Cup and then unignore ready for the standard Prediction League
