Summer 26 Transfer Rumours

Reading the Stockport forum occasionally over the last few seasons and you'd think the club was on life support with some of the notes. Obviously its only a handful of loud folk, but they make out that they get blown out the water financially with players and in reality they probably have a top 4 budget in the league every season? Top 6 at worst.

I think their owner mentioned changing the way they were going to spend rather than their recent approach and they took that to mean the budgets were being slashed. In reality it's probably just they are going to try a different profile of player.

Have I missed anyone , that’s 19/20 players
Goalkeeper, right wing back 2centre halves, 2 midfielders minimum required
Not one from that list looks captain material to me
Sarce would be my pick, if he was guaranteed 40+ games at 90+ minutes

 

Stockport could have gained promotion and there would have been some fans that would have been negative, such is the nature of the general football fan. Just because Challinor has gone and they've had a change behind the scenes doesn't mean they fall apart as a club. Expect them to be up there challenging again, just with a different approach.

 

Their forum/ owner indicated they are spending less on the squad to prevent annual losses of £10 million which he has to fund. I don’t see any issues with money problems other than the owner wants to put less in to sustain those losses.

 

He ( Stott) has professed he wants to ape a Peterborough model using Man City and Man U cast offs and loanees from the same source . It could work. Challenor wasn’t convinced seemingly? I thinking about that HardTruth interview between DMac and Stott cosy or what?

 

Once you spend over a million like they did with Mothersille then fans seem to expect that every transfer window. Nothing wrong with spending that sort of money if the player puts in the performances to reward it, either with helping with a promotion or being sold on for profit. But with a high transfer fee comes comes a higher risk, if they flop it's a huge dent in the budget.

 

Got to get it right though if your spending that sort of fee. Looks bang average to me does Mothersille.

 

If we were to lose GA and Sharpe then we would worry a bit

 

Charlie Webster the big haired CM from Burton is rumoured to be a target for Sheff Weds and Leicester. Thought he was the most impressive player that came to VP last season, looked to have bags of talent. Think he got an injury not long after our game and was out for a while after?

 

He’s ( via his companies) funding/ sustaining the £10m annual losses, so whose pocket is it coming from ?

 

You’re lauding over Wright. Mothersille at 20 scored more goals in one season than Wright has in his career and Wright is 2 years older.
We have some weird & bitter fans at our football club.

 

I dont understand the comp between the two either to be honest. Wright has spent maybe 80-90% of his playing time the last 3/4 years at left wing back and a rotational one at that, he's not going to have any numbers to show compared to Mothersille. And in his one good season for Posh, Mothersille played as a central striker rather than out wide with 12 goals in L1, 6 were from the penalty spot. Seemingly he only started playing his time out wide under Challinor? He likes a physical forward, in the games i've seen of his, Mothersille certainly isn't a physical forward so maybe he thought he'd be best wide?

I dont think he's been standout whenever i've seen Mothersille but i've certainly seen worse.

 

Bitter? Lauding? Perhaps add presumptive to one’s list ?

Any comments re Mothersille are directly attributable to multiple Stockport forum contributors, DC’s team selections and I’ve watched him about 8 times this last season so one can form an opinion when comparing players . He may come good , he may not. You seem to presume he will, based on he cost a £1m and scored only ONE goal since his move to Stockport, but instead cite his goal scoring attributes at a previous club.

They both play down their respective teams left side , one is a winger/ wing back and every time I’ve watch MM he’s played down the left in various forms . DC dropped him because he wouldn’t help out or was weak defensively ( Source County forum ) . Hence the comparison.

 

Reckon we will have nailed down 3 to 4 signings already probably waiting till July to show them off

I have the impression that their owners are not short of cash but they do want to cut spending. I think they have looked around and said two of the clubs who have not spent a lot are competing on the pitch and doing well.
