Not a rumour, just a suggestion of a player who could probably do a job for us.

Tommi O'Reilly, attacking right sided midfielder who scored 7 goals and 13 assists whilst on loan from Aston Villa at Crewe last season. Scooped all the player of the season awards.

Surely ready for a step up in level for a further loan spell?

It's already been spent on Beesley plus we'll need a replacement.

I would like to think we have the Newcastle money still available to spend

Given Rupp had to dig deep again last season then we can be confident all monies generated over the campaign were fully exhausted.

Certainly paying someone 12K a week would be financial suicide and a complete pipe dream at the minute.

But surely with added gate receipts and money made from the play offs that covers that you would like to think

Pretty sure Sharpe said in January that we had invested heavily in the loanees wages. That was after someone questioned we had done things on the cheap....

Perhaps not as much as you think from the Play Off’s. The EFL pools all the profit after expenses. They retain 50%. The remaining money 12.5% is then shared equally amongst the four teams. So Stevenage will do very well, Stockport will get a decent renumeration, whereas Bolton and City will get less of a return, given the money generated, by the far larger attendance.

Love GA I do I really do think he’s an excellent communicator and he normally nails it. But that interview re the Jan signings is a load of tosh. Sorry it was clear to everyone it wasn’t at the standards needed and they even tried to defend it at the fans forum but people could see through it. It was poor learn from it and don’t repeat. Simply you don’t need 7 or 8 average players you need 3 or 4 top quality in January you need to be prepared to go for quality not quantity.

I think that window is hard to judge.

We were having a successful season, and improving on what we already had, not just in individual terms but as a team, was never going to be easy.

3 or 4 first team improvements was never likely. We signed probably too many players and yes, I think we wasted game time on the likes of Mullin and Wheatley, but we finally settled on Jackson (our only improvement) and I still think Ashby might have had something to offer under different circumstances.

If anything, the push to improve the 4th best team in the division was unrealistic, and the optics make it look like we failed. We didn't fail anything last season, that's the bottom line. We overachieved fairly dramatically, but no, we didn't improve enough to finish top 2. Did anyone actually expect us to without spending a fair wedge?

I wouldn't be surprised if the amount wasn't close to break even anyway on the just the play off games. Sharing 50% of the profits with 3 other teams, 2 of which were fairly low supported doesn't leave a huge slice of cake to go around.

I think Ashby, although poor defensively and lacked our current work ethic at times had plenty of ability and if he was able to fit within our wage structure I'd have like him to have been offered something to see what he can do with a pre season behind him and a better understanding of what we were asking if him.

If he did sign for us, I'd certainly see him getting game time. He'd be useful when we really had to get at the opposition, as he had real pace and seemed to cut through teams at times.

Replacing Neufville still wouldn't be easy though.

I can’t see us shopping for £10k+ a week players.
How’s tight against everything Alexander’s built.

£650k a year (probably 3 years) for someone who is 28 and no resale value - no thanks, thats not a good investment.

Newcastle paid £3.4m for Ashby didn't they? He isn't coming to us on loan or transfer.
