Agree. Add on that he is likely to get offered a two year contract whereas he would only have one left with City, and it makes sense for him to go. He will be 33 before the start of next season, two years at this stage of his career is a ‘no brainer’.
I haven’t heard that City have offered to extend his contract? All those criticising him should think it through. Would all those critics be happy to hand him a years extension to his Contact now ?

I wonder if there was some kind of gentleman’s agreement that he could leave after one year if an offer came in. There hasn’t been any comment from the club expecting him to honour his contract or wanting him to stay. I must admit, I thought he was older, so he’s still got something to offer at this level. His replacement may not come cheap if we want that kind of leadership in the middle of park. Let’s hope the club knew this coming and have already factored this into their plans. If not a fair chunk of the budget may need to be spent when we weren’t expecting it.

Good luck to him, but I suspect he’ll be one of those who won’t live long in the memory as a standout contributor to City folklore.

I agree it is a poor excuse, and one I find hard to believe tbh. How many husbands and fathers on here have to work away from hime and have long travelling times? Nevertheless I wouldn’t even try to convince him to stay. He can go and we can replace him.

If you'd turn down more job security and more time with your family every day over some misplaced loyalty to a company who would drop you like a stone the second you're no longer of use to them then you're a fool

What is required is to put us massively into debt, walk out on us when hes not willing to fund millions of pounds of debt and we can look forward to admins like the good old years of the early 2000s

I think it's a very sound excuse, we all know there's no loyalty in football despite how we try to convince ourselves to the contrary and I'd wager every one of those fathers and husbands you refer to would jump at the chance to take a job closer to home if the opportunity arose.

If Power wants to go and Wigan are willing to take him, then so be it, it’s his choice.

I think people are reading far more into travel being a factor than it actually is. Footballers train for a just a few hours a day whereas everyone else has to factor in their travelling time on top of an 8 hour day. Even with his travel time, I bet Max is still away from home for less than 8 hours a day. Yes the reduced journey time is a bonus, but let's stop kidding ourselves it's the main reason he wants the move to Wigan.

Appreciate there are two sides to it - but he signed a contract so the club couldnt drop him like a stone. Its him wanting out of the contract he signed. We brought him back into English football from the abyss, made him captain to lead us and he now wants out - its not like his family is in Plymouth either.

I think he should show some loyalty, where were Wigan 12 months ago?

Anyway we can do better and we are well rid, we need a captain who wants to take us up the leagues, not someone who wants to save an hour or so on his journey everyday and go back to a club he has already dropped twice before for pastures new.

We’re going to miss power , a good captain and solid professional, hopefully a younger player in his mould is available and we can get him .even if we have to pay a fee we need maybe two class midfielders to help goin

Of course they would. However, football is different from the normal employment. Has Wigan moved location since last summer? He was available then, plus he moved abroad to gain good paid employment. He was pleased we offered him employment, and a two year contract. Now all of a sudden his heart and home is in Wigan. We took the risk, and he played well for us. Now he is planning his next move, so be it, but we want proper compensation.

People are right if he wants the move Power should go but he is under contract with us so Wigan should be made to meet our valuation. Especially as this move has probably disrupted GA plans

I'd be significantly more bothered if Metcalfe was leaving.

Power is easily replaceable as a footballer, it's his leadership on the pitch that made him stand out, but I feel like as the season wore on that he became a liability and wasn't cut out for that 2-man midfield.

Well yes . I drove to London at 2.00 am from Bradford on a Monday morning and back up on a Friday night ( hell on earth) and back until we moved which was about 6 months . Then three years of driving down the M11 70 miles a day and night 5 days a week . It got to be absolutely awful . So the drive commute long distance is pretty awful even though the rewards were there. He moves on with my thanks . A great leader . Let’s be honest, he’s doing the best for him and his family, which on face value we would ALL do 7 days a week. Good luck to him.

Let's be honest, Power was probably signing for free for Wigan in 12 months anyway to see out his career. Best mate is part of the management team, a manager he's been successful with, playing a 3 man CM room so he doesn't have to run about as much, kids in the academy, it was aways going to happen. Everyone's in the same boat they would have been in 12 months down the line, but this way we get a fee and everyone gets what they are after. Everyone is a winner. It's very early in the window too, plenty of time to find another CM and let's be honest, his replacement was already in the building anyway in Metcalfe who can now sit in midfield and show what he's got.

All his move has done for me is really hammer home that Metcalfe cant leave this window unless we get a godfather type offer in. I don't really buy into the captain thing either, armbands are ceremonial for me in the modern game. Footballers are robots these days, gone are the days when a captain pulls a team up when they are down, tells them to sit in and see pressure or push on when they are in rhythm, they just live and die by their coaching plan now. I'm sure GA has said before we want 11 captains on the pitch and all that type of cliche guff and i bet more will come out along those lines when it's official.
