Doesn't look like he was given at go at Plymouth, he was let go a couple of weeks after Cleverley came in, but Wright played fair amount in the champ season before.

Cleverley said: "I'm a type of coach who prefers my squads to be on the smaller sides, and within that you need a couple of versatile players who can do two jobs, sometimes even three jobs. I couldn't offer Callum the game time that he was expecting or he was wanting. I respect what he brings as a player and what he has brought to the club but I think our team to be really dynamic and how I want us to play, it needs something different so it was free for Callum to go and I wish him all the best."

 

Might be a bit "northern football" type nonsense, but Wigan have put out a message today saying the club this coming season will have "Wigan people" at the heart of everything, hamming up that they have folk with ties at the club in key positions. Can see why the want Power back if thats the identity thing they are aiming for.

 

Just looking up a bit on Michael Smith, his finishing really is as bad as Preston and Sheff fans say it is. He's had 112 shots and 15 goals in the last 3 seasons, to say he's just a unit and is 6'4ft he's got just 2 headed goals to his name in that time too.

Dunno if he has a fitness thing or just wasn't favoured, but he last managed 90 minutes on Boxing day and played 90 in 8 of his 13 starts. He managed to score his 3 Preston goals in a 6 week period, and his 1,454 mins came in 37 games. Season before at Sheff, he managed 90 mins just twice in 16 starts. His 1,833 mins came from 41 games with 8 goals and 4 assists. So he was available in most matchday squads, but he just doesn't get that many minutes even if he was playing well, even that season he was averaging less than 45 mins an app at Sheff. The last time he managed a good first team mins was Sheffs L1 promotion season in 2023. Long time between now and then for a guy his frame and age, with just 10 games completed in the last 2 league seasons, are we just bringing a guy in to make an impact off the bench? If so, wont he be an expensive squad filler who might struggle for minutes? Seems an odd one.

 

Whoever comes in and replaces power if he does go, please can we not have a clause in his contract that says he has to take every set piece.

Morsy has been doing it at the Champ & PL level recently at least? Tbf, if Power was only going to play one more season here and Morsy will be on a one year deal, you aren't gaining or losing any differential really.

Sounds like he did alright at Bristol even without playing for that long between leaving Ipswich and joining Bristol. As said, Power or Morsy, whichever wont be here the season after anyways.

 

I've heard they are both big fans of Cliff Richards.

 

So far there's been different journalists all running stories for Wellens, Darren Moore, Artell & McNulty all being linked to the Stockport job.
