Yes and no .. He failed massively at Crewe after doing well for three or four seasons, got them promoted then he got them relegated very early . He always comes across well though.

Callum Wright another name that being thrown about, CM who Plymouth are releasing, he's been on loan at Wigan this past season. Wigan played a 352, with a sitting midfielder and two box to box players to do a lot of leg work and help the two strikers, Wright was one of them B2B runners and managed 7 goals and 6 assists in his 41 games there this season in L1 (37 starts).

 

Lots of Sam Morsy links coming in today to be the Power replacement, he has played for Bristol City in the back half of this past season. He'll turn 35 early into the new season.

Challenor now gone , “ the club taking a different direction”. The names being banded about are absolutely nuts . I don’t think their fans appreciate what sustainability is after the owner has spent £50m in 5-6 seasons . Why this all of a sudden is baffling . New finance rules perhaps ?

 

I mean the budget he will have had at Crewe will have been tiny. That’s a club that prides itself on using kids from the academy and then plucking out the odd loan.
Good club Crewe but they are the ultimate definition of league 2.

 

Brought a fair few young players through during his tenure at Crewe, Windle who has been mentioned on here just one of them. Was never gonna be a club that stayed in league 1 for a long period.

Yes they always seem to do reasonably well with the Lancs and Cheshires kids discarded from top line Academy’s . I do wonder if the County owner has had enough of largess spending and some say he’s going down the youngster route from Man City/ United. Where have we heard that before? Looks like Challinor won’t buy the “ project” by all accounts so has upped sticks ?
Remember spending over half a million on Gareth Whalley in 1998 ? Direct from Crewe . £1.1m today!

Trading out Power for someone nearly 3 years older?

 

Its looking like Rochdale boss Jim McNulty is getting the Stockport gig.

 

He'll be an upgrade in terms of the number of bookings and red cards.

 

I think people were surprised by the end of the season that he managed a few 7/10 performances and have then overstated his impact.

 

I think he would be perfect. Can play the Metcalfe role and the Sarce role. Good age and experience too

 

As others have rightly said, we never actually replaced Alex Pattison, so someone like that would be an invaluable option.

Looks the right standard, really. I'm still expecting a like-for-like replacement for Power, so if someone like this came in, I'm hoping it would be horses-for-courses and competition for places. I wouldn't say Metcalfe or Power were so good that they needed to play 46 games last season - they obviously were good, but not that good.

If we're playing a struggling team, a box-to-box coming in for either the DCM or Metcalfe would make sense.
