Smallwood was in the L2 TOTS and was Citys POTS. We got rid and upgraded. Nothing is forever in football! Could easily happen to Sarcevic too albeit we aint moving up in class so he gets offered a new deal IMO......but it wouldnt be the end of the world if he isnt with us in August.

Cook leaving and Sarcevic possibli leaving will be the end of an era - cult heroes. Up there when Jones, McArdle and Darby all left us.

The Smallwood out, Power in move was, frankly, excellent IMO.

When we cut Smallwood I was naturally pessimistic because we needed a player who could do the exact same role as Richie, but better. We found it. I would like to hope that was a pre-planned set piece (no pun intended), and not just a case of Richie out, let's see what we can get, OH POWER! - because, frankly, that would be worrisome if that's how that transpired.

If someone like Sarc is set to leave, of his own accord or otherwise (and I'm braced for that), then we really have to have the replacement lined up already. I don't think it's impossible to get a higher quality version of Sarc, but we need someone in a similar mould who will score goals, link attacks, work hard, AND show a very, very high football IQ.

There are most likely players of a similar mould bouncing around the L1/Championship threshold, just like Sarcevic bounced around the L2/L1 when we signed him, but I understand why people would worry.

You have to believe the club are planning well in advance of the window, which hasn't been true in the past, and you also have to have more faith than "but we might struggle to replace Powell" because if we're struggling to find a higher quality player than him, you can forget getting better than Sarc lol

The factor that most worries me is replacing some of our obviously quite good players will cost money. Finding a number 9 for next season is imperative, but will be very expensive in many cases. Replacing Sarc with better will cost us. As I said in another post, we can't keep looking at players from Stockport and Barnsley anymore. That's what we have already. We need BETTER, that means raising our standards and it all gets exponentially more expensive as you prepare for Championship football.

If we don't do this... we sink.

The planning to get Power in was over a year in the making. Bradford End posted about it being a possibility the summer before last and I think Power mentioned about the interest being there the previous year when he did finally put pen to paper. I don't think he wanted to drop to league 2.

Conteh had a bone infection and missed a lot of football and was apparently promised a transfer out but the club gave backword. Like Shepherd he didnt want to be there. Conteh and Banks need a clear pre season and theres championship players there

TBH we need a Sarc replacement whether he stays or goes. We need someone who can step in/challenge him for that shirt. He is 34 and only capable of starting 2 in 3 games. That will decline further.

Finding a number 9 will be expensive but if we had invested in one last January we would probably be playing Championship football next season.

Probably more like what a few have found e.g. Metcalfe, Touray, that stepping us to league one is manageable but doing it week after week needs a bit more.

It was the first full season at league one for a few of them, happy to give them another try next season.

Josh Hmami scored 15 goals from CM for Halifax. We should be looking at the NL for hidden gems, our scouting department is pathetic. We are still waiting for Parky to return the rolodex!!

It's probably because you didn't stump up the extra £4M

It definitely could and replacing one player with better is usually pretty doable but Andy was suggesting we bring in 10 better than many of our current first choice. We've got to be realistic, that's just not going to happen.

I am sure our scouts are aware of players such as these Halifax players and had a look. Maybe they think they could not step up a couple of divisions and not worth the risk?

There will be scores of players who do well at lower level but not worth the risk.

GA likes his players to have experience of battling for promotion in the football league and it has served him well too.

Players like Metcalfe we should targeting more too

Our loan market system is what requires an overhaul. 2 seasons, a dozen loans and the only standouts were Ademorola and Shepard. Most teams that get promoted from this division know they can’t buy players of a higher quality, with a few exceptions, so they use the loan market instead. Our scouting network in that regard is piss poor

We are gonna need a complete rebuild over the summer regardless of what the clubs intentions are

Mullin, Wheatley, White, Ashby, Sibley going back to their parent clubs

Evans, Powell, Kelly, Goodman, Cook, Odour, Hilton, Leigh all out of contract and will most likely be released

Extensions/renewals will be provided to Wright, Baldwin & Sarc. Whether Sarc choses to stay or get a two year contract from Salford/Oldham/Rochdale/York is another matter

    13/14 players out already

    Tilt, Pennington, Humphries likely moved

Pointon, Metcalfe, Neufville will have bids put in for them over the summer

and thats without addressing our need to strengthen at Goalie and up front

I hope Rupp gives Sharpe a good budget because we have our work cut out for us

I think the issue with are loans is , Alexander wants to get most of the squad in for pre season so he tends to bring in permanents then uses loans as squad fillers instead of starters. But we need to start using it better. Wonder if another issue is the training ground as much as the facilities are great it’s still asking a premier league loan to come from grade 1 facilities to a school

Sunderland are keen to further their development of highly-rated England under ‘21 keeper Matty Young, who has been in great form on loan at Salford.

With our history with Pickford and the Mackems wanting to step him up the ladder next season, I wonder if we will throw our name out there.

Salford might go up but we’re a far bigger club and the experience would do him good.

Not sure if Safc want him in the Championship or L1 though……
