The “ shots” on goal , along with possession , is the biggest misleading stat in football . Means nothing if row H is hit shot after shot . So is shots on target btw. We had non , according to the stats in the first 45 mins, whereas a Sarce attempt was a shot , and on target , just happened to be blocked by a defender doing his job?

 

Powell is a cameo player. He doesnt start games and wont be starting on Thursday. As for Wright, one headed goal in around 100 games for us?

Id love to know the percentage of crosses converted into headed goals.

 

I think we need a new set piece taker and coach next season

 

I agree stats can be misleading.You could have 4 shots on target from 30 yards straight at the keeper who can easily gather them and it makes it look as if your a great attacking force. We created 3 great chances, 2 for Sarcevic and 1 for Jackson but they’re not registered in stats. As for Bolton they had a shot which hit the post and rolled along the line which was far more scary for us than an easy effort on target which the keeper can throw his cap on the ball to stop it going in.

 

I’m not getting into the argument about the rights and wrongs of releasing Cook but he would be a great option from the bench

Only true indicator is being at a game watching live or watching in the TV, stats can mean whatever you want them to mean. Football usually boils down to a team either taking their chances or not. Take the Bolton game, I've read a lot on here and elsewhere, ultimately we restricted Bolton to two decent chances on goal, they took one and hit the post with the other. Football is the only sport where you can be up on the stats and not win, generally in other sports the better the stats you win.

 

We can't go gung-ho, sure, but we can't be too measured.

We're trying to score against a team we have struggled massively to score against.

That said, Bolton are going to have periods of possession and we probably have to accept that to some extent. Go in 0-0 at half time and will you really be happy? That means we've lost another 45 minutes. We're on the clock trying to do something we haven't done all season - beat 'em. One goal in four games is an insanely low return.

 

I'm still seeing posts suggesting we should bin him off if we reach the championship but signing up Baldwin again is a must.

Its the first time I have seen Grimsby play this season on tv, and I have to say, Cooky was very poor, and looked done for, even at that level.

 

I think he’s one to offer a coaching gig to when he calls it a day. But I think he’ll go another couple of seasons. Whether it’s with us, I have no idea.
