Wasn’t there today, but yes your memory is correct Dave. Smallwood did a reading last year, I thought he did it with gravitas, compassion and a feel for the tragedy, not some mechanical act.

I agree with you both. The '56' branding is tacky and representative of how few people around the club today witnessed the events that day. I stick with my personal memories and thoughts of that day and always remember my dearly departed dad for the PTSD type symptoms he suffered afterwards. Never forget always remember ❤️

Agree , many of us are on here are still living with it in our minds but the families of those that died went through hell and back . I can’t begin to imagine really Offy .

Today is always emotional for me.

You could see the gravity of the day clearly displayed on the players faces.

You came to the game to support your team and sadly never returned home.

    RIP

Me too. I once bought a city shirt and nearly had the number 56 put on the back, because that’s the year of my birth. Then, at the last moment, I realised that everyone would think it was meant to refer to ‘the 56’ so I didn’t bother.

I was a jobbing social worker in Bradford at the time. In that role I visited an elderly woman whose brother was a lifelong City fan with a season ticket in the main stand, who was killed in the fire. So from that experience, and being on the Kop myself that day, it brought home to me that the fire affected far more than just 56 people.

RIP our fellow football fans who never returned home.

My thoughts are also with all those who were physically and mentally affected that awful, awful day, which, to me ,still feels like yesterday.

Thinking of all those affected by the worst day in this cities history.

I agree around the 56, it’s not a brand and many more people were affected that day. It seems like we copied it from Liverpool, it’s very crass as is theirs. I don’t know any other tragedies where it happens tbh.

Another year goes by, with everyone still in our hearts. A tragedy that bonds our club like no other.

ps Don’t get me started on ‘56’ hoodies.

Don Goodman reflecting on the events of 11th May. He talks about getting two tickets for “two beautiful girls” whom I believe one was his girlfriend (and the other possibly her friend?) who both perished. I remember Don was an apprentice electrician with Leeds council at the time we signed him. He wasn’t half quick.

Excellent piece Don spoke from the heart and said what many have had to live and deal with for many years, those that weren't there that day find hard to understand what many witnessed that afternoon, I agree with Dons comment about it bonding us as fans, it's only been quite recently that me and my brother have actually discussed that day.

I guess we all saw stuff that day that will live with us forever. What a way it would be if we could win on Thursday in memory of those no longer with us.

In a recent interview Alexander said he'd spoken with the players with regards the last home game of the season and what it means to the fans, the club, and him and his players, I didn't get to todays memorial but our lad said Alexander and the team were there and no surprise Stuart was in attendance, I'm sure past players would also have been there but not seen by him.

I'm pretty sure the captain does a reading every year
