Earlier in the season, our best performances came with Swan up top. He's mobile, we hit balls in behind and he could get on the end of them, we turned the opposition and played from there. And it helps with the press. Its fundamental to how we play, which is why we look so much worse with Humphry as a striker. Humphry should be used as an impact sub in the 10 positions, and Mullin should be an option from the bench as a 9 if we're chasing a goal and when the opposition sit deep.

We are at our best with with Sarcevic in the team, he has a quality in his play that is irreplaceable for me. But he obviously can't play 90 minutes every game - I think he'll be rested on Saturday so that he starts against Rotherham.

 

I get your point but I hope we start Sarcevic at Wimbledon if it's only 65/70 minutes and rest him against Rotherham, I think Wimbledon is the harder game, we should have enough to get 3 points from Rotherham especially at Valley Parade.

I agree with that from a pure footballing perspective, it's whether he can do 3 (or nearly 3) games in a week.

I think there was a touch of sarcasm in the comment Andy.

 

We'll know at 1:45 on Saturday afternoon, that's why I'd prefer Sarcevic to start even if he couldn't do the full game, I'm always sceptical when fans say its a strong bench, I know Alexander won't flog players to death but for me I'd rather start with my strongest 11 than have to bring players from the bench to save the game or get us points.

 

I think he starts on Saturday especially given he's captain in Powers absence. Agree he needs to be managed very carefully, but the big problem we have is that we have nobody else who can give us what he does. That waa highlighted at Huddersfield and Lincoln but we can't afford to lose him for a lengthy period.

 

Matter of interest. Does anyone know our win ratio when Sarcs plays? Must be a high bar.

 

Not sure overall, but I believe we have only lost 1 home game, to Cardiff, when he has started, since signing for us 18 months ago. Remarkable really

 

In this league this season when Sarcevic starts we've won 14, drawn 4 and lost 3. In the 10 games he's not started we've won 2, drawn 3 and lost 5 so we drops from around 66% when he starts to just 20%. Points wise we drop from 2.2 points per game to 0.9.

There was a point, late on, in the game in Tuesday where we cleared the ball from deep and it was Sarcevic that was yards ahead of the rest of the team chasing it down. I don't know his relative starting position, but that just epitomised his desire and awareness.

 

We need to be looking for his replacement, he wont carry on at this level much longer, i can see us offering a 1 year deal at best
It will be very hard to replace him, the record with him in the team is fantastic.
