Just to make our midfield worse. He is not playing well I presume it is the card situation but our midfield is still only average when we are playing well. Away from home we need to drop an extra midfielder into midfield rather than allowing the oppo to run right through us.

The tactic has been found out against good teams, and we need something out the top draw or a set piece to get a win against your Vale, Blackpool, Donny types. The tactic needs a change and quick!!

3/4/3 hasn't worked away from home ever since he introduced it against Crewe in November 2024!! Ironically, that was one of the few matches, where it look OK - but, significantly, we were up against a team who like to play footie and ended up mid-table.

It certainly doesn't work against decent teams - we got away with it against Stockport in the first half and I'm amazed GA hasn't started with 3/5/2 since that 'warning'.

Some perspective is needed though. All our top 7 rivals have far better first eleven's than us and we'd struggle to get one of our players picked. That's the reality. And why the other three promoted clubs are down amongst the dead men (great song by 'Flash and the Pan'!!).

So with only Bolton and Stockport left to play and a better away performance than normal (look that means it was 4/10 instead of the usual 3) it's not all despair.

 

Yes but Mullin and Wheatley both looked better than any other options we had at the start of the window.
Mullin battled and held the ball up. Got no change from the ref. Wheatley played off the shoulder.

Thought they both have something.

Think our problems are now in Central mid when we get played through and at the Wing Backs which isn't great as they are critical in our tactic.

Defense not looking quite as solid with Tilt showing us a little bit why he'd dropped to League 2 too.

 

Power / Metcalf are not going to play well in this system away from home. Particularly against teams that are simply better than us and particularly with our 3/4/3 system.

People seem to be loading on Power, but let's remember who we've played recently. Note, he was fine against Blackpool and Doncaster.

Frankly you could put a peak Jack Wishere in that central midfield and he's look stupid, in this system away from home.

Chance we could be out of the playoffs after the Wimbledon game but a bigger chance that gap now could be up to 7 points + ......... Luton are piss poor away so dont expect much from them

 

Alexander is tacticly naive playing the same stubborn formation that results in us losing to teams that do an ounce of research.

We need goals to win games, boost morale and stop the leaking of goals in our defence.

Power needs dropping until he performs the duty of a captain and puts the team first before his desire of playing every minute.

And let's have a display where defence plays to midfield. They hold it up for more than 2 seconds and play the ball into the box and feed strikers.

We need to try play a bit more football through the middle of the park and mix it up, too much side and backwards passing. Humphries back flip, Sarc pass and Wheatley is through on goal - it would have been a lovely move if he had finished it. Teams are quicker and taller than us , the long punt, and crossing from wide isn't carving out any chances.

 

Well we cant have a go at Power for trying to get a yellow (that late shove should have got him one) then he'd miss both the Posh and Stockport home games, when Evans came on he passed the ball well but in all honesty I cant see Alexander dropping his Captain.

 

Power is always off it

 

Mark Bower saying similar with regards our formation certainly away from home.

 

Does anybody know why neither of the Newcastle players were on the bench?

 

Metcalfe and Evans would be much better, vast improvement
