I think overall it’s been a good window both in and out. The worry is though that it’s very short term planning. Once again in the summer we will be having a big influx of players. Settled teams with the right players get success

I got a nasty feeling that the late activity will catch up with us in the end ........... we need the newbies in before that run against fellow promotion rivals not way after when the damage is done .............still lets see month or so down the line because i bet the folk saying that its been a great window will no doubt be ripping the same players to bits should it go wrong :(

Nice summary deal of how desperate this window was, or how crazy money is for naff these days........ Bristol Rovers paid £150k for striker Joe Quigley, who has 3 goals in his last 70 appearances in all comps.

Well nobody really knows tbh Gaz. Who would have predicted we would be where we are at the beginning of the season, but here we are. I would not say it has been a terrific window, but a pragmatic window ie we were outbid by our rivals. If we had bid let’s say a £1 million for a player and that would be a lot of money for a promoted side, Doggy big balls would quote £1.5 million and so it goes on.

We were weak in attacking areas we still have the ones who were playing plus 3 more options so we have certainly strengthened in that area. The rest remains to be seen

Maybe the powers that be, have more idea about the player market than us mere fans
They might have brought in players that they think will see us through to a potential playoff spot lots of loans and players out of contract come the summer and room to potentially improve them and maybe have kept the powder relatively dry
    We will soon see

I think we are stronger than when we went in and certainly have more attacking options....... IF, they find sharpness.

My only real issue with the window, is that everyone we have signed barring Wheatley, who is coming off a month long injury as it is, they all have barely played football since the end of April last year. We have a lot of guys who will need to get up to speed and they wont be all able to do that at the same time and whilst they are doing that, we might still look a little sluggish/sloppy in moments for the next 4/5 weeks. And after our less than impressive Jan, we cant really afford to be bedding people in for Feb, but that's the boat we are in after this mini-rebuild. Reckon we are going to be seeing some sink or swim moments.

Granted it wasn’t over ninety minutes but both Jackson and Mullin look sharp enough on Saturday

You don't think Mullin will improve the squad ?, I've seen and saw in the lad in his short cameo on Saturday everything we have been lacking since Andy Cook had his ACL, there won't be many opposition defender relishing trying to get the better of Mullin.

Sorry Bronco, I don't rate Mullin at all. His League One record is utter crap.

I've read some interesting opinions on here since Saturday about his debut and I feel like I was watching a different game. All I saw was a thug who seemed intent on roughing up the opposition and was lucky not to be sent off. I saw nothing to suggest he is a League One promotion quality striker.

Fair point, perhaps not a panic signing as such, but one we probably wouldn't have made this window had Sarc been fit.

I think both players will improve us overall, Mullin particulary. That said I didn't think either looked match sharp and were both blowing out their arses :joy:

I thought Jackson, Evan’s and Wheatley had played a fair number of games this season
The others I am not so sure
If they haven’t, they should all be fairly fresh though

Once City showed interest and asked Pompey to write off the rest of his contract (which they eventually did) it was always on the cards he'd be coming to Valley Parade as our player, it wouldn't suprise me tin the least to see us give him a 2 year deal then Alexander will have the security of a central defender he can build around.

A question. For those deriding our January transfer window, what exactly were you expecting? Just because we find ourselves 5th in the table there is no magic money tree. Yeah, maybe we could have brought in another striker or quality player but generally, if you aren't throwing cash around then you are picking up players that the parent clubs of those players don't really need or want.

we didn’t give him any service at all. Created nothing for him in half an hour.

It didn’t help that Lapslie came on for Jackson at the same time. It was a scrappy game, the ref wouldn’t let it flow.

Wait until we put some chances on a plate and you’ll see his quality. In terms of minutes per goal he was far more clinical than any of Wigans other strikers. It didn’t work out there but Wigan are shit.

He has a presence we’ve lacked and scares opposition defenders as they’ve seen the goals he scores. He should have had a pen and a free kick on Sat but ref was adamant he was getting nothing.

GA did say that the recent injuries to Swan and then Sarce resulted in a change of recruitment priorities. I put Jackson in that category. Rather than consider him as a 'panic' buy, imo he was more of a 'needs must' or a 'forced to recruit' player particularly when the length of the contract for a 31year old is factored in. Having said that, I'm hoping we see more of his debut performance for the rest of the season.

The big frustration was going into the Cardiff, Huddersfield and Lincoln games with a weakened squad.

It's pretty obvious that we expected Wheatley to be here by then, probably all arranged pre-Christmas and then he had the injury and things were already in motion for Andy Cook. I'm also guessing that players we were in for, and perhaps had been given a good indication that we had a chance with, subsequently went elsewhere.

Can't assess the transfer window until we've seen them play and whether the team sustains a play-off challenge. If they do, in view of the fact that we can't compete financially with some of our challengers then it's been a good window.

If you listened to GA’s interviews he said we have targets in order of “ wants” a,b,c and so on , depending on player, club, wage deals and demand from other clubs etc etc. He said if our choice goes to another club we move to the next in line and so on. That’s why they appear chaotic and down to the wire adds to the impression .
Which clubs bought early in the window….? Therein lies our answer. Not many at all.
