We let Gibson go and he was one of many youngsters who were badly managed in that terrible 2018 to 2021 spell. Yet his Dad, doing what any did, dares to protect his son and five / six years some still have it their heads.

I suppose it shows how low we fell, that Gibson is the player we love to hate - as opposed to say Ivan Toney.

 

Have a listen to Alexanders take on it he says they had a monitor replaying the game but did not fully commit to seeing the 4th official go and look.

It was blatantly obvious to me, half way up C block, behind the dugouts, that Jackson’s right arm handled the ball before he hit it. Everyone around me was amazed when the ref awarded the goal. No one initially celebrated as the ball went in because we all assumed it would be disallowed and we were all laughing when the ref waved play back to the half way line.
The 4th official was 20 or 30 yards nearer the incident than me so it’s perfectly feasible that he could have seen it, unless his sight line was blocked by another player.
But what’s puzzling is that he didn’t contact the ref straight away. He waited until after the Donny bench berated him for some considerable time, which suggests he didn’t actually see it in real time and supports the suggestion that he was shown a replay.

 

Sitting well up in Midland rd as I do I am suprised by how bad the view is at pitchside, amazing that they spot today's but can't see a plain one such as at Mansfield.

The thing is officials at this level are generally average to say the least , you hope it equals out over the season

The evidence shows it was a clear handball and the goal was rightly disallowed.The way the decision was reached is the only thing in question , as the ref seemed to indicate a goal, until he was contacted by the 4th official.
However if we turn the situation around and imagine Rotherham had scored the goal and it had been allowed even though there was clear video evidence and the 4th official had not got involved (even though he knew it was handball)
Then we would be up in arms at the decision.

 

Also not a big fan but what he did was bang on including the time wasting.

As for ipod gate if thst was involved in getting to that decision right or wrong then it needs stamping out and the officals need punishing for taken notice of outside influences .................

 

How many times have we been on the end of pee poor decisons though and we have hsd to put up with it ?????

I can name several over the years

Keith Edwards of Sheff United one of old and Billy Sharp and Graham in modern times ALWAYS seemed to score against us. Does that help?

 

I can only think of the Mansfield handball as a blatant wrong call. We haven't done too badly for major decisions this season. Ivreckon we got away with one earlier in the season against Wycombe but other than that I can't remember any that were absolute errors. Every forum up and down the country will swear blind that they've had the rough end of the deal with ref's calls.

 

The angles suggest to me that the 4th officials view was obscured by the players torso. The behind the goal replays suggest so. Clearly hand ball without question but the allegations of unofficial use of “ Var” need looking into.
Notice throughout the game their players were surrounding the ref with arms out wide trying to influence decision making?
The most laughable in the last couple of mins of added time , Pearson going nuts at trying to claim handball in the box when it was Odin Bailey who handled it .
