We had a proven goalscorer in Andy Cook.

What we needed was a proven goalscorer at league one level not someone who could do it at the levels below for a team that absolutely romped due to an absolutely huge advantage over everyone else.

Will be be first choice and is he better that we currently have? Absolutely but it's a poor yardstick.

Is he enough to keep us in the top 6? Let's see.

 

I hope it works for your mate, gonna be an interesting summer for him as the next move will probably be his last realistically. Could do a job if integrated into the right system but as some Wrexham fans pointed out, he came to life when paired with Palmer and that would mean us playing two strikers, something Alexander doesn't really do. Personally I'm not against a change of formation as the way we play has too many limitations in an attacking sense.

Bring in the Man U lad (maybe they are waiting for us to sign someone who can progress him) and all of a sudden on paper at least, we’ve increased our attacking options ten fold.

 

Remember him getting a punctured lung and 4 broken ribs when he took Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop out during a friendly in America would that make it difficult to play the full 90 minutes.

100% the first part. Cook has gone - get over it! Whether he could have influenced the remainder of the season, we’ll never know. Personally I feel more confident in a player like Mullin for the remainder of this season.

I see a Wrexham poster on here suggesting he’s more effective in a top 2. In the past two games we’ve looked better (couldn’t have looked worse!) in that formation. Neither Humphrys or Swan are effective enough in a lone role, especially without two firing no.10’s either side, so maybe we see 3-5-2 deployed more.
