I don’t really understand the question. Investing in a squad to realistically challenge for promotion is very different to assembling a squad to survive.

 

You raise a very fair point. We did overachieve pre-Christmas. We had momentum and a real feel good factor around the club and took full advantage.
Momentum works both ways though and if we see a steep decline in the 2nd half of the season, the fear is we take that into next season regardless of who we bring in during the summer. What we've seen in the last 3 games has similarities post Christmas in McCalls 2nd season. We got relegated the following year!
It started to get a bit toxic in the away end last night and it would be unforgivable if having finally got the fans onside for the first time in years, the club chucks that away.

The overreaction is mental to be honest. We still have 57 points to play for and yes our last 3 results have been bad but we were playing 3 of the better clubs in the division. Of course we need to strengthen but it’s like people aren’t understanding how difficult this window is.
It’s taken just a couple of bad results for a large majority of people to turn against Rupp and Sparks and I do think they really need to have some perspective.
I think we will see some incomings especially after last nights result but if we are being realistic I don’t think we would be able to keep pace with Bolton, Cardiff and Stockport etc, not this season anyway.
Unfortunately for Sparks and Sharpe we are now victims of our early season form which was never going to last over 46 games. I get the disappointment but I think there is currently some over the top analysis going on and I’ll be honest I think some of the fans last night basically ridiculing the team and manager with some of the songs they sang is bang out of order.
The Andy Cook song was the icing on the cake. Embarrassing behaviour.

 

I agree with most of your post. Its not the 3 defeats themselves though that have caused the reaction, but the manner of the last 2. They were always going to be tough games and defeats in both were a strong possibility. Its the fact that we didn't compete at all and almost looked like we were a team from a lower league.
Re the window, yes January windows are never straightforward, however if its that difficult to get people in to improve the squad, then at the very least we shouldn't be offloading existing players to make the squad weaker! The squad clearly had to evolve so I didnt have a problem with the outgoings at the time, but that was with the expectation we'd get improvements in. There are a few days left and hopefully they have more irons in the fire.

 

So thinking more about perspective
We should never been so bloody low in the first place
We were here when Rupp took over, in fact better off having reached the playoffs and the final in successive seasons in league one
It’s should have been a push on then instead of letting the club fall so far so quickly

 

The next 4 games are far more important than the last 3 defeats.3 out of the 4 at home and games we should be competative in and gain points. Anyone who thought we would not have a bad spell of results was quite frankly delusional. We had an unbelievable first half accruing many more points than the squad on paper should have been capable of.
Letting cook and Pattison leave at the time looked correct, but our downturn in form since has cast some doubt around particularly allowing Cook to leave. As I have said above I think by the end of February we will have a much more realistic idea of where the season will take us.

We only reached one final but I get your point, after two top 6 finishes, Rahic and Rupp should have had the platform for the championship, instead oversaw one of the most devastating declines we have seen in recent history, from 5th in the previous season to bottom and relegation.

 

There's mutterings of fans over reactions. And maybe the fans are.. a bit.

BUT it's not the results is it? Let's face it. If we lost those three games, but looked half decent there wouldn't be an over reaction. If we lost those three, but with 3 new faced who looked to fit in and were showing glimpses of improving what we have then there would be no OTT reaction. It's the manner we've played in those three games.
