Well, it closes a week today. How many more new faces to do we think will come through the door in the next week?

I'd be happy with 1 CB (depending on how long Pennington is out for) and 1 striker (excluding the Wheatley deal).

I honestly feel like we need 4 players - 2 strikers, central midfield and central defender (assuming Byrne does leave).

Be amazed if that happens to be honest!

It's to do with how the EFL works and the regulations set by the clubs, the current split is 80/12/8 and the only way that can be changed is by a majority vote by the clubs. However, it isn't as simple as 1 vote per club, Championship clubs hold 50% of the votes the split isn't going to change as they are not going to harm their own finances.

I know all this mate, just think it stinks
Each football league club holds an equal share of the league I believe so should get an equal share of the finance . £120 million to championship clubs £20 million to league 1 and £10 million to league 2 approximately
Some are more equal than others though

Unless we loan/sign an established L1 ready striker, midfielder and defender...

I agree. They are making the Championship into PL mark 2.

I am at a loss to fully understand why we might not be ready for the CS! What are we supposed to do in LG1 whilst waiting for the golden hour? If we have to wait for a buyer who doesn’t mind losing money hand over fist then we are going to be subjected to non competitive football. Not only will we slip down LG1 the fans will start to leave as no competition means boring football.

4 for me as I think we need 2 strikers. Wishful thinking perhaps, but we are criminally short of quality firepower up top

This is a table of the most recent operating losses incurred by Championship clubs. Without financial support from their owners in covering these losses, usually from their own pockets, many clubs would be facing insolvency.

    upload_2026-1-26_14-11-47.jpeg

And that's after they've all had the benefits from higher gates, increased ticket prices, extra revenues from TV broadcasting, increased solidarity payments from the PL, more sponsorship, more commercial deals etc. We would also benefit from these much needed extra revenues in the Championship. We'd also have to bear the extra costs borne by other Championship clubs including the enormous cost of a Championship level playing squad. We'd more than likely finish up in the same position as every other Championship club incurring huge losses every year.

Can our club somehow buck the trend, control our costs much better and avoid these losses? Or do we have an owner who would put his hands in his pocket and hand over millions each year to keep us afloat, even at the lower end of the loss-making league table? We should be ready when the club can answer positively to either of those two questions and which will endure. Or we could close our eyes, stick our fingers in our ears and wish it would all go away cos it's somebody else's problem

I think we will see 3 more come in, with a couple of departures.

    CB, CM and ST.

Proving that going up and staying up is so heavily stacked in favour of already established sides, and by an awful lot too, that’s how they strengthen their squads over time , where a promoted club can’t compete .

After getting thousands of supporters back onside they could end up causing themselves a big issue if it all drops down the shitter :(

Rupp does not have the money to take those kind of losses. Someone argued with me yesterday about there is no chance Milwall would be spending £15million a season on players wages which is around the norm for the championship. I got slated for saying we can’t compete at that level currently - not without risking our future.
    The Hull figures are terrifying.
