I might be wrong, but I think the assessment of where we are from inside the club, is less 'we'll never have a better chance, lets really go for it', and more 'we've outperformed ourselves so far, we're not ready to go up, so lets focus January on moving on the players who won't be good enough long term, and bringing in younger players with a higher ceiling that might develop'.

Not saying it's right, but given the financial ceiling of the club, I get it. Sibely, Ashby, White, Wheatley (if that's confirmed) - they strike me as loans that are 'try before you buy', with the hope that we find a couple of diamonds. i.e. I don't think we're making a short term push, I think we're using it as a long term building window.

    Possibly
We have momentum currently and trying younger lads is a gamble
Fail and a lot of fans are going to be very unhappy

Looks like thats another one gone Steve, this window looks more like a wage reduction exercise, now the club really are going to pull rabblts out of the hat to keep the supporters happy.

Lots of commotion on ifs and buts of costs in championship and if we can afford or not.
No one can really answer the question
We know wages and costs are much higher

    But so are the revenues
Attached is snipped from an article of what Wrexham would earn on their promotion

Add 5-8 million on ST sales (Higher end of scale if increase)
    Potentially more higher value sponsorship

If figures alone from the deals that are guaranteed that is quite some cash
But that doesn’t guarantee how much would be spent on transfers and wages
It still potentially not enough to fund a championship quality team
Seasons are long and if only used as stashing the cash to come back down then 46 games could be a hard watch

Me personally would rather see a bit of championship football and yoyo until could compete

Alternatively, getting up would attract a buyer who has desire to invest

I think you have got it spot on there, I reckoned we would only get a few loanees in and it has proved correct (so far).
As an aside I wonder if Millwall were 'ready' when they beat us in 2017 to get to the championship.
They have never looked back and are even challenging near the top now.

I agree. And its frustrating because you never know when we'll have this platform again. But I also understand it - we're not a financially bankrolled club, and in the absence of external investment we have to find a way of sustaining a club that can compete at the top end of League One regularly and then surviving in the Championship if we get there. And doing so with recruitment of players in their early 20s as a central feature of our recruitment strategy, is a good way to go in my opinion.

I don’t think any fan will be sorry to see Byrne leave and with Mcyntire going back, it’s what we replace with is what fans will be looking at

You won’t get an argument from me about younger players with future value
Unfortunately at City we see very little of this
Most loans go back to the parent club and we have developed very little of our own with any value Mcburnie the last I can think of that

Exactly, at this moment its the depth of the squad thats worrying me though either way so far this window has not been exactly ambitious, however i hope in wrong lets see what happens in the last few days of the window.

Callum Connolly mentioned as the CB replacement from Stockport. He looks like he's been out with a knock for a bit but he had 12 starts up until December.

Him and Pennington were in the same youth team at Everton and played together at Blackpool. He's played with Touray before at Stockport and Power at Wigan but that was some time ago. He's played with Jenson Weird before too at Blackpool along with Pennington, he's a CM that was mentioned over the weekend.

Normally be all over this, but these players aren't ours.

If they do well here, who's to say they'll even sign for us?

    What is ready
    Where we last season
Well looking at the current table you would say yes, Wimbledon starting to fall back and the two clubs that finished above us , currently look like they were not ready
It’s one of those questions you can only answer when you are actually in the situation

They may not, and I may be wrong. But based on the albeit limited sight we've had, they don't look to be really strong difference makers that we'd have no chance of signing, they look to be 'have a look, they're available in the summer' level of players.

A 6' 2" lump of wood is better than a dwarfish Swan if we're gonna persist with the long ball down the middle.. but on paper, a less than inspiring solution.

Have we put bids in for players though, Kevin
I have seen nothing official, only the odd muttering from GA and bits of bollocks on twitterarty . The cup run ,some transfer money, probable reduction in the weekly wage bill ( 5out, 3 in) and over 5000 extra fans through the gates on match day above season ticket sales, must have increased the potential budget

    No idea Kev
These are just stated revenues, whether accurate or not

    This is explained here

    Premier League solidarity payments are
funds distributed from the PL's broadcast revenue to English Football League (EFL) clubs not receiving parachute payments, acting as a financial buffer, with amounts varying by league (Championship gets most, then League One/Two), calculated as a percentage of the PL's equal share, aiming to support the broader pyramid, though parachute payments for relegated PL clubs themselves are a separate, larger mechanism to ease their own financial drop

If it’s solidarity payments to the football league, then surely each member should get the same amount one club getting over 5 times more than other is madness
