Curtis Tilt suffers Racist Abuse at Huddersfield

We are aware of an allegation of racism that was made at full-time of today’s Sky Bet League One home fixture with Bradford City at the Accu Stadium.

Assisting the relevant authorities and officials in their investigations, we reiterate in the strongest possible terms that Huddersfield Town does not tolerate discrimination or anti-social behaviour of any kind.

City confirmed they have lodged an official complaint about the incident which occurred as the players were leaving the field.

Tilt reacted furiously to something that was said by a home fan behind the dug-outs and was unhappy with the lack of response from stewards.

Boss Graham Alexander said: “He was racially abused by somebody to the side of the benches. He felt it wasn’t dealt with by the appropriate people that were right next to the incident at the time.

“He was obviously angry about first the abuse and how it was dealt with. But that’s down to a couple of individuals round the bench.

“We spoke to the referee and officials and the report has gone in. I’m sure Huddersfield as a club will want to deal with it properly.

“It’s not good at all for Tilty first and foremost or for anyone to face that sort of rubbish. There’s just not a place.

Tilt was eventually ushered down the tunnel by City staff before the club issued a statement.

“That sort of stuff makes anybody angry,” added Alexander. “Tilty handles himself in a great way all the time but he’s understandably raging about it.

“It’s just something that shouldn’t exist. We know it does in the world and all we can do is deal with it in the right way.

“It’s a shame because even Tilty was saying when we were speaking to the referees, ‘it’s their day, they beat us 1-0 and fair and square’. But there’s never any reason for it anyway.”

The club statement read: "Bradford City AFC is aware of an allegation of racist abuse from a supporter in the home end, towards Curtis Tilt, following the conclusion of this afternoon’s Sky Bet League One encounter with Huddersfield Town.

"West Yorkshire Police are dealing with the matter, and the club will cooperate fully with all investigations and support Curtis, who has allegedly been subjected to such abhorrent discrimination throughout the process.

"Bradford City AFC condemns all racist abuse in the strongest possible manner. We have a zero-tolerance policy to such unacceptable behaviour."
