You both have a point, we created more at the start of the season and he still never looked like scoring the amount of goals we need from a striker. However, Park is right in that our supply is now non-existent. I just don't see any attacking player thriving when our passing (short and long) out of the back is so woeful, it must be down there with the worst in the league, you can't create much if you can't get on the ball or if you lack height and physicality like Bobby and it's pumped at your head. All you had to do is compare the defences yesterday and see the difference in accuracy and speed with which they played it out of the back in comparison. Power is another culprit who seems to be turning into Smallwood more by the day, lumping it up field to no one. It seems strange to blame a defence for the attack, but if they simply can't get on the ball and play to their strengths, then they are at a disadvantage. I'm no footballing snob, if we want to play long ball, get a big target man and get runners off him.

 

We definitely need to ditch the formation that has served us so well in the last 12 months.

We are consistently been overrun in midfield now and our wing backs have been so ineffective lately.

We need to find a settled centre back partnership, Pennington and Tilt for me.
Ashby and Touray full backs.

We need to recruit another central midfielder to play alongside Power and Metcalfe.

We need to bring in a striker with an eye for goal and play alongside Sarce and Pointon in a 3 up front.

Thats my opinion of course. I do think GA will be stubborn and stick to the current formation though.

 

We seem to have completely lost the ability to 'play through the thirds' in modern football-speak.

Having watched most of the Stevenage/Bolton and Lincoln/Burton games this week, our style of play looks so limited in comparison. Did Neufville even get into the Huddersfield half yesterday? We look slow and easy to push into a default ineffective goofball.

Our formation isn't working now and I agree with others that we need another player in midfield. Our 2 man midfield is often 1 man when Power drops back to get the ball. As @Inspector points out, we keep rotating the front 3 without any obvious impact, because what is happening behind them isn't good enough at L1 level.

 

Mcintyre could play out from the back and carry the ball forward but we hardly used him and now we've sent him back. He would have been a better option than Wright yesterday imo.
In terms of Power, I think he just needs to bite the bullet and get the yellow card that will see him banned for two games, because having that hanging over him definitely seems to be affecting his game.

 

Similar to Adaramola last season....its almost like they arrive with a mindset and it is coached out of them.

 

Bang on. Power has been ineffective since he got his last booking. With hindsight losing him for the last 2 games wouldn't have made much difference anyway. The sooner it's out the way the better. As for Joe Wright he really struggles against the better more mobile attackers and is someone I'd compare to a Paudie O'connor rather than a Jack Shepherd. As I mentioned before about the constant rotation of the front 3, the same can be said about the defence. We need the one central centre back who forms the spine of the team. Currently we use Baldwin, Wright or Tilt. It's getting near to the time where Alexander needs to stop the constant chopping and changing, and focus on getting the consistency of performance back into the side.

Particularly after that embarrassing shambles yesterday, underlining the pathetic window so far given our league position and moving on of capable, much appreciated stalwarts. And now rumours of Sarce. Cost cutting.

In other news, some Donny fans on twitter seem to think Byrne is heading their way and they don't seem displeased about it either. If it happens, hopefully it will be a loan until the end of the season so we can stipulate he doesn't play against us because as sure as night follows day, he'd be nailed on to score against us otherwise.
