That may well be the case, in fact probable, based on factors like quality of players and financial considerations.
But if you don't try, you'll never know.
Remember, most on here, and I include myself, were worried that we wouldn't be able to compete in league 1.
Most of us hoped to play well enough to avoid relegation.
With another 60 points up for grabs who would have said we have a chance to be in the play-offs or even a small chance of automatic promotion.
We are where we are and should go for it IMO.

 

Logically you are of course correct. We still have several players in the squad that are League 2 standard at best.
That said, we had momentum and I for one want to see us winning as many games as we can. If we end up not even making the play offs, it will mean we've had a shocking 2nd half of the season.
Given where we were as we entered the window, we had a real opportunity to kick on and give it a real go. There's still time to put things right, but at the minute the squad looks weaker.

 

It seems to me that GA and the club recognise that we need to rebuild as too many of our players are League 2 quality. We have overachieved against expectations in the first half of the season.
The problem is that buying players who could compete in the Championship in the January window is prohibitively expensive for our club.
So I think the club have decided to see what we can do but are keeping their powder dry until the summer before spending.
I still think it was a poor decision to loan Cook out without a new striker in the building, even if a different style than Cooky.

 

I just wonder if a deal was struck for a striker so we let Cook know and he left and then something has scuppered the deal?

I get the sentiment behind this thread. Certainly infrastructure wise, Championship clubs are stratospheres ahead of us. Even a lot of League One clubs are miles ahead of us in that department.

However, none of that means we don't chase success on the pitch. If anything, you'd like to think promotion to the Championship would help us in that regard.

 

Look at what Sunderland are doing in the Prem thanks to investment. They seized the opportunity.

How do you build slowly out of interest? We have an opportunity and need to take it , January has been average in signings and piss poor in results, thats not building slowly, its chucking the towel in

 

Get your sentiment but.....we are in a strong position, stronger than we all dreamed of. We need to give it a go whilst we are where we are. There are no guarantees that we will be in this position next year, it may not happen and it would, in my opinion, be foolish to think we will be and not give it a go this year.

 

Watched your early game today on tv , as a Barnsley fan I’m not right keen on town , so was hoping you may put a dent in their playoff hopes, would probably have helped our cause as well. Was quite shocked how dominant they were and fear them getting a new manager may be bad news for Barnsley .
Don’t worry about getting into championship too early if you make it just go with the flow , momentum is key . I think this division is gonna be a cracker in the 2nd half and top 2 and top 6 will be blown wide open as the season goes on.
If I was to predict who will make it it would be a complete guess it’s that wide open.

Its laughable that some go on about not being ready but the times we have gone up into a league that we have little chance in staying up

1996 to the Championship we stayed up
1999 the PL we stayed up

So what we hang around for years till the time is right that we are ready which either way you look at is gonna still cost us money anyhow ????
