used to work in Newport and the Welsh are genuinely really lovely people, amongst the friendliest I've ever met along with the Geordies. Everyone's names were shortened. - David was Da, Gareth was Ga, Laura was Lor, Helen was Hel etc etc etc:brig:

Not sure if you've ever worked in Caernarfonshire or north west Wales, but they hate the English. I worked there in Porthmadog when a new bypass was being opened by the local mayor. Because the Welsh government sent invites in English, the local mayor and councillors refused to attend and they had to get someone else. I'm glad that the day passed off relatively peacefully, we're predominantly a family club and it's great to be able to chat with other fans. Ultimately we all have the same trials and tribulations.

I played a cricket match over in west Wales. After the match we walked into a local pub, and as soon as they heard me talking, all the punters switched from speaking English to Welsh. It was like a scene from American Werewolf! Wasn’t a friendly place, drank my beer and buggered off sharpish. An isolated incident - I lived in Cardiff for twenty years and never had trouble. Much fun banter on six nations days of course.

I lived in Cardiff for 12 years. We did experience some anti English nonsense but it wasn’t much and easily dealt with. My nephews support Cardiff, and other friends. Most of them travelled yesterday. The one team they were frightened of were Bradford City. Their manager expressed his genuine thoughts “that we blew them away” in their home match with them. They genuinely believe we will go up with them.

I thought it was one of those games of two half’s. City didn’t wake up until the end of the first half. I can’t deny Cardiff their win they were brilliant first half.

Same happened to us in Anglesey many years ago on holiday with the kids …we walked into a pub and the language changed as soon as I asked for a pint etc. They didn’t do themselves any favours!

And we were poor , weak and lopsided in the first half emanating from our left side, putting all the pressure on midfield . It was night and day compared to the second 45. It needs saying two of our players , one out of his depth the other not fit imho.

I worked a few night shifts in Rhyl town centre.

It was like a Welsh version of The Walking Dead.

Do you not think it rude when they switch DELIBERATELY ? In this case a bar of people and bar man speaking English one can hear when one walks into the place and then switch instantly as soon as they realise you ain’t “ one of them “ . I think it’s bloody appallingly rude especially in an area that relies on tourists , who without they would be in serious trouble? . I detest this nationalistic b@lll0cks.

Wouldn't bother me to be fair Kev as I wouldn't be doing in to talk to any of them anyway. As long as I was served my pint nicely enough I'd be on my way to find a table and leave them to it.

I'm not sure they hate the English.I have a holiday in Porthmadog every year, and have always found the locals very friendly. It's true there are many more Welsh speakers in North Wales, than in the South, but especially along the North Wales coast, there seems to be an increasing number of Merseysiders,so the Welsh language might become a bit more diluted in time.

That’s the point Dave the opposite applied . They were surly and bad mannered . The pub has since closed after failing to sell when put up for sale and that was 40 years ago. Serves em right;)

I also think the switching languages depends on what part of Wales you have experienced. I lived in the South with very few excursions into mid and north of Wales. It is beautiful in all parts of Wales, but I just loved the South with its beaches.
