He came on as a sub and scored today. Suggests he is going nowhere.

Signing a proven goalscorer in January is nigh on impossible. Unless there is an experienced striker sat on a championship bench wanting game time i suspect it will be up to a young loan like Ethan Wheatley to come in and make a name for themselves.

Spot on. The talks of Jatta etc are bonkers. Notts County would be absolutely stupid to let him go.

I guess every player has his price but County would demand silly money as it's January and goalscorers are the highest commodity in the market. I can't see us throwing money via a large transfer fee, its just not what we do

Nothing in football is impossible in my view, it just depends on how much you want to spend on whatever you need.

Everyone, especially in the realms of a tier 3 squad, everyone has an affordable price. Impossible... no? Affordable.... thats the question.

See my post above. For one I don't think Jatta is worth that much personally and I can't see us splashing out a transfer fee when the money could be spent on salaries. Hey I may well be wrong but I suspect we will utilise a couple more loans

If I'm Jatta unless I get a good move which I really want I would wait until the summer as he is a much more attractive option as a free agent with more clubs will be willing to offer a good contract with no transfer fee to pay.

I can see us being willing to pay a good fee if it is worth it but the problem for me will be what wages they want. I don't know who our top earners are or what they are on but I'm be surprised if we had anyone on more than 6k per week so the last thing we want to do is bring in a player on much more than that as it destroys the wage structure and only causes issues later down the line when signing other players.

I'd maybe prefer an Olaofe or Stewart type (not necessarily those) but someone who has scored goals at this level compared to Jatta who everyone would hope can make the step up. A six month loan of an Olaofe type doesnt come with years of commitment compared to Jatta who'll probably have a minimum 2.5 year deal.

Is it worth spending £750k+ for a striker that we have no clue if he’d be any good in the Championship which is now the aim.

I can only see us speculating decent money if there is a chance of a resale but even then its not something thats part of our strategy. More likely to look at players like Jenson Metcalfe with the caveat that Everton apparently have a big sell on percentage.

I think Alexander is looking for players who fit his system, not necessarily an out and out goalscorer like Andy Cook was. Saying that, if our two in the ten roles offer little like they did today then maybe we do need that kind of goalscorer.

It's the lad who played for Sunderland and has a pretty good record of scoring but will that be enough for Alexander can he high press, 6'2" eyes of blue, at least we'd have a viable option when we put crosses into the box.

He scored for Southampton today. I would be surprised if they let him go.

I really don't see it, Southampton paid £8million for him so he will be on huge wages way above what we can afford. He's also had a lot of injury problems in the last couple of years, he's only just returning from a hamstring injury. Since joining Southampton in September 23 he's played 30 games

Agree, it's like our very own 'ITK' accounts on Twitter. ncfc_wrld will be engagement farming because they will know Notts County fans are on high alert for Jatta leaving.

With regards to Jatta, I just don't see Alexander signing a player like that. He never seemed overly impressed by Cooks scoring exploits when he was fit, putting more emphasis on the other things he did for the team.

Look at the profile of the players he has signed in that position. Mellon, Swan and Humphrys all have bang average goal returns but he wants them to press. He always makes the point that he doesn't mind a forward not scoring if they contribute to the system.

Problem is you can teach finishing and I think you will find Humphrys is the poster boy of that fact. Wheatley matches the above three players and I think he will be the only forward signing.

Apparently on £20k a week at Southampton..... You know what sounds amazing in the winter months? Taking a 75% pay cut and moving to Yorkshire.

This is why I think it will be so hard to find a striker as we are looking for a very specific one, we are looking for a striker who:
    • Has some pace to press
    • Physicality to hold up the ball
    • Has the tactical understanding of how and when to press
    • Come in an score around 10 goal between now and the end of the season
Basically we are after a league 1 Haaland which is why it will be incredibly hard and if we get to the end of the window without bringing one in it doesn't mean a lack of ambition, it's it is very expensive and every is after the same thing and anyone that has that player doesn't want to let go of them.
