Does anyone else find the AI generated false evidence provided by the disgraced West Midlands Police Chief Craig Guildford to 'justify' the ban on travelling football fans, a scary thought.

It makes you wonder how many other cases have been wrongly brought to court based on AI evidence rather than good old fashioned police work, or indeed future criminal cases.

AI may have a limited place in society for me, but as we can also see from the Grok tool on X, this technology is going way too far for my liking.

To be fair Terminator suggested it would be used for robot to take over the world, if we get to that stage it might be time to admit it has gone too far. People will believe what they want to believe regardless of AI, AI is now just a tool to justify their opinion by creating false evidence.

AI has enormous potential for research into health, medicine, engineering, education, knowledge-based sectors, media, military, etc etc but it potentially could have an enormous downside. This primarily comes from its misuse such as the West Midlands example but potentially in many other areas as well. Listening to some of the talks by Geoffrey Hinton, a well regarded British- Canadian computer scientist who's regarded by many as the godfather of AI identifies what could go wrong in the future without imposing some constraints however uncomfortable that might prove to be.

Hi @SimonW@SimonW , do you have an opinion on the AI used by West Midlands police?

Just wondering as you were particularly vocal on this topic.

It's obviously not great. Someone has clearly been tasked to research other examples of the fans causing trouble (And despite what some of you want to act like there are plenty) and like many people that person hasn't had the training or have the knowledge to know that Large Language Models (Which is what they are rather than AI) will lie to you and do so with the uppermost confidence so they seem like what they are saying must be fact. LLM's can often be amazing tools but you do have to always double-check any information they provide, which hasn't happened here.

The sad thing with this though is it's undermining the legitimate intelligence that provided the bulk of their decision-making which included not only police reports from other places where the fans had caused trouble but also the shared intelligence system they have access to and used that is used not just by law enforcement around the world but also intelligence services including MI5/6 and the CIA. The phantom match that the LLM created was additional supporting evidence not the core evidence

That's a lot of words to say "we only embellished and outright lied a little bit but the rest of it is true. Honest guv".

Just a massive bowl of word salad. Chief Constable 'retired' on the back of this.

And still refused to accept any responsibility.

    Blaming the usual “media frenzy”

He's not the only one that refuses to accept they were wrong. It's almost like even proof isn't enough for some people anymore.

It was clearly obvious it was wrong from the start but some folk walk round with their heads permanently in the sand.

A reminder that this thread is about AI.

It is not a thread to discuss the politics around the banning of Maccabi Tel Aviv football fans from the match at Aston Villa.

Pretty sure it's your own admin team member that brought it back up so it was safe to assume it was OK to reply?

I’m glad the previous post was removed.
Unfortunately not before I read it.
I would have reported the poster if not.
I object strongly that my post implies I have Zionist views.

A lazy and unfounded accusation based on one post.

Iknow this wil get removed as well but if mods are throwing out these sort of accusations with no foundation whatsoever then we’ve reached a sad point on this forum.
