Halliday gone by mutual consent to join Dundee on a free

 

Halliday confirmed to Dundee. Ashame to see him go, hope the mentality of this team isn’t being lost letting these players go.

I honestly don’t see what others see in Halliday. I’ve seen people calling him a club legend and that’s completely bizarre. He is a steady L2 player and did well for us, don’t get me wrong. But he isn’t good enough if we want to progress.

People crying over Cook and Halliday leaving have a L2 mindset and thankfully, our management don’t. I’ve even seen people commenting on Grimsby social media wishing Jamie Walker was still here!

 

Yeah just like with Metcalfe ey...

EFL team of the season and multiple player of the year awards, plus promotion. I hope we don't bring in that sort of player again in the future.

 

For me, a fantastic servant in L2 but his limitations exposed in L1 and time for him to depart to make room for better players. The wing back roles are crucial.

 

I agree with that assessment. I think City letting him go on a free transfer has helped with him securing a 2.5 year contract with Dundee and give him some security. He deserves our thanks for his service and commitment.

 

But yet we still have Byrne…

Halliday has been a fantastic servant to our football club and epitomises everything we want to see from someone who plays for our club. I wish him nothing but the best going forward and I'm pleased he's got himself the security of a two and a half year deal.

You missed off - In my opinion. Halliday was at least worth keeping as back up for this season,in my opinion

 

He deserves to be starting games not sitting on a bench. I'm sad to see him go but this is the right move for him and for us.

 

Brad cleaned up at POY the other year didn’t he? He was a great servant and gave 100%. Nice lad and never let us down.

unfortunately for him with the switch to wing backs, GA brought in Neufville. If we played a flat back four I’d still back him to do a job.

Been a cracking signing, never below a 7/10, always 100% effort. Don't begrudge him a move at all.

 

As with Cookie, the right move for all parties. A fantastic pro and consistent performer throughout his time with us.
I think it became abundantly clear in his handful of starts in December that we needed lots more from the wing back role. GA is clearly looking to evolve the squad and this is an essential part of that process.
Hope he smashes it north of the border!

 

One of my favourite characters of recent years. Reminds me so much of Stephen Darby.

So consistent in his time with us. Bonded so well with the fans. Never gave less than 100%.

I actually thought he would be leaving last summer once the Neufville signing was announced.

GA has been quite ruthless in the way he has started stripping the core of our promotion squad, and rightly so in my opinion.

I wish Brad all the very best and hope he and his family settle in the Dundee area.

 

I get it, I really do, but we have had a bad half season with injuries to CBs and we need as much cover as we can manage.

I mean, would you rather have Byrne available in an injury 'crisis' or a 6ft block of wood cemented in the 6 yard area?..
...don't answer that.

 

Different positions and we're well stocked in the RWB position but not quite so much in the CB position.

I'm sure if we can successfully bring a replacement in and move on Byrne then it would be done. Probably just a question of who's available, if they improve us and finally, if it's making financial sense.
