All the best Andy Cook, loved having you at the club. One of the best finishers we've had in my time as a supporter. Thanks for the memories big fella. Proud to be able to say that I saw your time with us, you'll be talked about in these parts for decades. Also delighted your name sits right up amongst our all time scorers list.

Cookie was a great servant for us, but I still stand by my comments of, we would still be in league 2 had Cookie played the full season last season, and we are now a better team without him, The way Alexander has us playing, no longer suits Cook. Having said that.. the way we were setup vs Mansfield it was criminal not to play him, that was the team he would have thrived in.. ie the League 2 City.

I dont disagree.....proven right on 2 of them although tbf Walker having a good term at Grimsby, albeit it L2 and Cook decision looks right because im gunna be honest, he hasnt really done owt with his chances this term.

One big factor folk overlook is the wage budget. Id wager Walker, Smallwood and Cook were high earners. Risk vs reward the factor....if they were on peanuts you would probably keep all 3 as squad players.

In his signing interview at Grimsby Andy said he had been talking to Artell for a couple of weeks, which is probably why GA didn't include him in recent squads. He wouldn't want to risk an injury preventing the move.
Before joining Grimsby he has spoken to Jamie Walker and Danny Rose who had been a Mansfield team mate.

The Walker one is debatable. I’d take him over Wright and Kavanagh, and I’m not convinced Sibley or Joe White (if he signs) will be any better.

 

Best wishes to the man, the legend, very sad to see him go one of the most humble and popular players to play here, signings that good are a rare thing.

Maybe was the right time but it feels like it could have been handled better, I hope the club have someone in the pipeline who will genuinely strengthen us, not just a rookie kid.

 

Walker was more than likely wage factor IMO. One of our higher earners and an extra 25% on top (standard promo bonus).

 

He didnt half score a lot of goals out of nothing situations ...........i think after so many years he fiund his home here just a shame that time and a bad injury ended it .............

 

I agree, sadly Walker falls into the Pattison camp, just couldn't keep him fit enough, due in part to his aggressive style of play

 

I dont get folk having a pop at GA when on the whole he has got it right and lets not forget we sit 3rd in league 1 and he did get us out of league 2 without near on a year without the great Andy Cook.

 

We will. Think it is heartwarming to see so many tributes for him. The word legend is often misused in the game but not in this case especially for you guys. We're lucky to get him back and hope he can stay fit.
