Saw him earlier this season when we played Northampton and he looked poor, although as you say he did put himself about but got little change from Tilt, Wright or Pennington, and didn't look the type to play the high press game chasing lost causes down.

If we do sign Wheatley then with White looking like he's confirmed it will put us on 4 loans so I would expect at least 1 of Ashby and Mustapha won't happen as I don't see Alexander wanting 6 loans.

I see it, just because it feels like White is there to be back up for CM roles as and when and McIntyre wont make the bench if everyone is fit either, so getting 5 in the matchday squad is easier than it seems.

But GA doesnt seem the type to usually want loanees? Unless the budget isn't there to go out and sign players on big deals and we are making do until a few leave?

Could be. We all were surprised when Metcalfe joined permanently. I think a lot of people would have expected that to be a loan.

I don't think he's necessarily against loan signings, last season we brought in 5 in the summer and 3 in January. I think it's more to do with loan players typically being younger players who are learning and he's not got a lot of time for developing players, he wants players who are ready now.

Seen a few posts saying this is like the 87/88 season. Before my time but definitely is shaping up like an opportunity missed. We must be saving money in those guys leaving and if Haliday goes I imagine that’s another top earner. Money from the Newcastle game, all the near sell outs surely we can do better than what we have been linked to?

 

Probably depends on the loanees. Seems like we have less gambles than last years loans? White has had a successful L2 run under his belt, Ashby has had a few CH spells, Sibley too, McIntyre should know the system too. Wheatley is the unknown gamble, there's a least a few seasons of training or being around men's first team play with all the others.

Still paying a percentage of Cook's wages AND taking Oduor back? If this happens Grimsby have done us proper dirty.
