Andy Cook Grimsby

I wouldn't be surprised that there will be a signing in the next 48 hrs now Cook has officially gone.

 

Me too. Wish I hadn't started chopping onions for tea whilst watching it though.

 

The goal at Newcastle really was the end of the dream. But I'll always remember over 4,000 people turning up for a match against Grimsby that meant nothing to see him make his comeback from serious injury. Don't think I've seen two goals celebrated like that in pizza trophy game.

 

Absolute sacrilege to mention that carthorse in the same breath as Sir Andrew of Cook.

Anyone else find it weird that his wife’s statement specifically thanks Sparks but nobody else by name?

 

He’s up there with my other fav City players. Capable of scoring hat-tricks and giving us hope in games that seemed lost.

Was strange seeing his early goals on the highlight reel when no crowds were here during lockdown. He thrived on the crowds when they later returned.

His goal at Newcastle was my fav - lump in the throat moment, and his thunderbolt vs Port Vale and Vertu trophy goals either side of his injury too. Also that one away from home in L2 where he cuts in from left hand touchline and practically takes on the whole team before slotting away (vs a blue team). Magical.

Just a proper warrior who gave his all for the shirt.

Loved seeing the vids of him partying after promotion - ‘shut up and drive’ and ‘City’s going up ole ole’ before he finally stumbled home days later.

He was also just a top guy who had time to chat to fans and pose for photos. Great player. Fantastic servant. Good luck Andy. Hope he hits the ground running with Walker et al and Grimsby go up now.

 

Seen a few people pointing this out and the lack of a comment from Alexander.

Good luck Andy, always remembered for the goals. Sad how it ended.

 

In our darkest days in league 2, if we didn't have Andy Cook, I believe we would have been nearer the drop to the conference than where we finished up. Thank you Andy for giving us hope and All the best.

 

That's the game I will always remember his performance that night and match winning goals absolute fairy tale stuff.

The goal away to Gillingham is one of my favourites. It won him goal of the season that year. If a Premiership player had scored that pundits would have been talking about it for weeks.

 

The same carthorse who scored almost 100 goals for us and gave us better memories such as that goal at Villa Park to get us to a league cup final?

For me, he's the best goal scorer City have ever had. A goal every 170 mins for the club over that length of time is probably unmatched I'd guess? When you through in assists, it's a goal involvement every 133 mins. Just unreal returns for a guy of his age for the spell.

Not just the time in a day and age when players especially L2 level have two maybe 3 years at most at a club, but he was effective in every role. He played whatever it was under Trueman, then negative play under Adams. Hughes version of tiki taka, then a more direct game under Alexander. Played on his todd and with partners and every time he brought end product.
