Looks like Ashby has played 111 games, if you included PL 2. He's one of the boat load that sign long deals for U21 squads and get lost in the shuffle. Sounds like Swansea was a step too much for him at the time, did better at QPR as was supposed to go back on loan to the CH in the summer but he's been injured pretty much all season to now. He's still got plenty of time, only turned 24 in mid-November, plenty of years before he's hitting his prime for a full back.

 

I did think that but Kev said he was a LWB so I assumed he was right (given he always is )

 

What are 23 and 24 year olds still doing getting loaned out?

A couple of bits on Joe Wright it looks like his spell at Orient got off to a bad start with a couple of injuries then never recovered from it. Also there is an interview from November which he speaks well in.


If we do sign him then it will certainly be one in the 'point to prove category' and could be one where if he does well we look to make it permanent in the summer similar to Ashby.

I think Baldwin is more that capable of playing the ball on the deck too if there are players making the runs or the space. He can also carry the ball and make himself a bit of time and space. I do agree thought that it's his defending that occasionally let's him down.

 

I agree that he's better right now but I don't see the huge differences in ability mentioned between Platt and some of our other centre halves. They're just playing in a better set up.

 

It's crazy isn't it. These PL clubs have to take some of the responsibility. You can't tell me they don't know by 21 if a player will make it or not at that level, they should do contracts to 21, then make a final decision then at least a lad can move on if the answers no.

 

Commentary will be fun.. "Wright knocks it to White who sends a diagonal ball to Wright who jinks past his man to the byline and crosses to the goalmouth where White heads on to Wright who scores with a headed ball down right"..

 

We should have signed Josh Stones last season, although I believe it cost York about £400k potential transfer fee which they could afford. The lad is excellent. I saw him play many times as a 17 and 18 year old for Guiseley and give old clogger centre backs a hard time. He's in the Cook style but also has pace.

 

I remember listening to the Peterborough chairman's podcast a year or two back and he was telling a story about these limbo players who are on long terms U21 deals but dont really have a chance.

He told a story about a Spurs keeper they wanted, he was 23/24 and was never going to make it. Peterborough wanted him and offered a decent L1 deal a few years back now and the agent came back saying this keeper who's not achieved anything in the game yet, barely played mens football.... his agent came back saying he wants £5k a week, which would have made him one of their top earners. He told his agent to rightly piss off and get his priorities right. Sounded like he had a few experiences dealing with these lads who are 22/23/24 and wont make it at a PL club, they can be a nightmare to get out a deal where they are paid far too much to try make it at L1/L2 level and i guess an agent wont let anyone willingly leave money?

If they can't make the squad and aren't getting game time, 21 or 22 is late enough to make that call.

We was also loaned by Walsall last season after Lowe went back and he looked far off the pace in L2. He's spent the first half of the season on loan at Northampton, made 22 appearances in L1, 20 starts and managed 3 goals and 3 assists. Looks like he's about 6'1 or 6'2 from different sites. Reading the Cobblers forum, plenty of good words said about him being a constant threat etc.

 

These loans links are extremely underwhelming Christ we are 3rd in the leagues and need true quality and experience. I really hoped not but feared they don’t want this promotion, it’s too soon they don’t have the infrastructure. However they want play offs or fight for it for revenue and buzz into next year for season tickets. I had hoped and expected more.
