Who knows.. Lawn wasn't rich enough so again... who knows.

 

I don't think we'd have had 6 seasons in L2. We might have made it to the Championship if PP had stayed, but unlikely we'd have lasted long.

 

L2. PP would have jumped ship

 

Don’t forget, it was our cup runs that financed a sufficient budget to challenge in L1 at the time.

Lawn & Rhodes knew they would have to dig deep beyond the 15/16 season - something they couldn’t do!

Also, our best season (domestically) came after they left (Rupp & Edin’s first season). Quite a few forget that.

 

Odds are, League 1. I doubt we'd have gone down, but if we'd gone up we wouldn't have lasted.

We need new ownership and investment to rise up a level and stay there.

 

Floating between Champ and L1 I would imagine. Can’t compete with Champ clubs paying 40-50k a week and receiving parachute payments, but capable of holding our own and more in L1 given the resources the then-chairmen had.

 

I remember Lawn publicly saying that had we beaten Swansea in the cup final, he couldn’t fund any Europa league campaign and so we wouldn’t have entered

 

PPs last team was a striker (Wells equivalent) away from getting promoted to the championship imo but he struggled to sign the right one (McLean etc). I also think that PP would have probably left eventually and I’m not sure what would have happened then because Lawn and Rhodes record of appointing managers was poor before PP.

It’s an interesting point about us getting further in McCall’s season under R&R than we did under PP with L&R.
Of course that’s true but I remember at the time it being on record that Rahic was kept arms length to an certain extent for that first season and it was only in the summer after we’d lost at Wembley that his meddling properly took hold.

 

Tbf McCall did still have the spine of PPs team still there .................had they not come in i think we may have got to the championship but dropped sgain .............just such a shame we had to go through all them years of shite to get back to where we begsn .............i know folk can have the odd pop at GA and his tactics but looking back we aint half had to endure some utter shite havent we we are looking at 2 20k plus crowds over the next couple of weeks you actually 20k being in the ground rather than given the gate out as 15k when in reality it was more the 7k mark .....................we have made huge strides over the last year or so but it should never have come to that had someone got wise to Rahics antics a lot earlier

 

Not sure why Mark Lawn gets blamed for selling it was the Rhodes who wanted out and they were the major share holders, Mark offered his help until Rahic found his feet which was refused I think most now realise why ?.

 

Behave, Rupp and Rahic got lucky after Rahic had pissed Phil Parkison off with his " I know football and must be taken seriously" Parky wasn't going to have any input from Edin and told his agent to find him anther club, Julian Rhodes got Stuart to return to the club as Tweddle Dumb and Tweedle Dee didn't have a clue once Parky walked.

 

Stuart will tell you the stunts him and Kenny Black and got up to to keep Edin from any sort of input in football matters the man was a clown.

 

One of the benefits of the Rahic scandal is it forced us to up our commercial game out of necessity.

I doubt we'd have as big revenue growth had Lawn and Rhodes stayed. Sparks deserves a lot of credit on that front.

 

When Rupp was made aware with regards what was happening at our club by John Dewhirst and RO Julian offered to run the club in 2018 in a consultancy role, he wanted out and thought he'd secured a his replacement but it fell through, so he offered the job to Ryan he openly says at the time he wasn't sure he was experienced enough to accept the offer.
Ryan and his team have done a very good job with regards the commercial side of the club but his managerial appointments have been suspect and success on the field plays a massive part of getting sponsorship on board.
