People expecting a longstaff or smith may feel a bit underwhelmed I feel. It’s very likely going to be young loans who we’ve never heard of (apart from some football manager nerds), but I trust our recruitment team to bring in the quality we need.

I barely know 5 players in other league 1 teams so keeping tabs on fringe young players from the PL or Championship is impossible for me.

Lewis Richards is still around. He has had injury problems but he aint going anywhere in his current state and there will be a hope he is available between now and the season end. With Brad playing at RWB currently, Neufville could easily fill in at LWB if required - plenty of experience at Wimbledon in that position. Think he played there vs Huddersfield?

And personally I dont mind Wright at LWB. Some of our best football this season had him there, with Touray at LCB.

 

We will be losing Power soon for two matches we need cover for that position

I, personally, would have a left wing back in on loan, I've given up on Richards myself, feel for the lad but it's on to pastures new in the Summer barring an impressive return to fitness and form.

Wouldn't be surprised if GA was happy with the options you presented though, he is often happy for players to cover when slightly out of position.

So it's a creative - preferably right sided forward thinking player we need.

We're fine on the left Pointon / Wright have been as good as we could have hoped for and look comfortable at the top end of L1. Yes, Wright needs to make better decisions - but despite that he's still caused defences problem. Of course if a great opportunity presents itself on that side, we take it.

I don't see how bringing a 'marquee' striker serves any purposes as unless we address the creative side. They'd still not be getting chances. Plus a new striker means we must be dropping Humphreys and relegating Swan to the reserves, but both have shown that given chances they can score. So I've no problem with the those two.

If Cook goes (and I doubt it) then a replacement of his type will be needed, but again they are not getting straight into the first team at the moment - so perhaps that means a promising loannee.

Defensively, we're fine. I'd argue we've got two of the best right wing backs in the league. If Richards goes, we'd need cover for at that side though.

A cheeky bid for Shepherd perhaps, who is getting the heat for how many Barnsley are conceding perhaps? I think back with us, he'd thrive.

But it's great to have a window where we're not desperate. Contrast that to January 2021 - miserable Covid time and a miserable team!! (but enter one Andrew Cook!!)

 

Charlie Whitaker? Attacking midfielder for Tranmere, has scored 10 goals in 27 games this season for them, only 22 years old.

 

One thing for certain is that whoever comes and goes, the club are certainly keeping their cards close to their chest

Everton have recalled the lad Martin Sherif who was at Rotherham, Alexander seems to have a good relationship with Moyes.
He's only 19 he plays the striker role and is 6'4" another option up top.

Only made the league squad 7 times, and hasn't started since the opening couple of weeks.

Been injured since mid November with a repeat of a hamstring injury too.

 

Maybe league one is a bit early for him and he is dropping down a division, where he might get more opportunities

 

Agree with most of that apart from replacing Cook like for like, if indeed he goes. I genuinely think our style doesn't suit the old school target man.

 

I remember him coming on as a sub at Rotherham earlier this season and read this morning Everton have recalled him, maybe it's because of his injury Everton believe he'll get better looked after at his parent club.

 

I thought he looked like Bambi on ice when we played them, even though he scored.

 

He's 19 hardly the finished article, but as you pointed out he scored so he did his job.

 

Yeah I'm on the same mindset. With Cook out the need for a unit type striker should go with him..... but given how long we play lately you never know.

 

I agree. What i meant was a more fluid No.9.

There's this misconception that we play with a striker. We don't. For the last year we've played with a mobile front man - almost a False 9 at times. That is vital to our style of play.
