Even though we won, I remember Wright having a mare against Matty Stevens of Wimbledon too.

Squat little unit just kept unbalancing him and won everything that day.

 

You are right regarding Kelly and Wright being the weak link on the ball but you’ve got to have balance between ball winners and ball players.

I think Tilt, Wright and Baldwin are my preferred back 3. I think Kelly is backup LCB and Pennington Backup RCB. McIntyre is decent as utility.

We need to move Byrne on. I really don't rate him.

 

Spot on yes , Steven’s and Reid I think it was just played a great game by unbalancing Wright before every header/ challenge.

I think he's been a decent signing but throwing words like immense about is stretching it.

 

He has been a great signing. Prone to the odd mistake but he is a rock in that defence and he chips in with the odd goal.

 

Couple of wobbles after his concussion but otherwise he’s been superb.
I just read someone describe Baldwin as crap - he’s been outstanding since Doncaster end of last season (I’d have hastily sacked him on the spot). His response has been fantastic.
Baldwin and Wright have bossed those central and right centre half positions

His poor play led to their goal yesterday and there have been plenty of other occasions in the last 6 games that either good goalkeeping or poor finishing have let him off the hook.

The clean sheets have been welcome but let's not pretend that we weren't giving up major chances to the opposition during that time.

"Outstanding" and "superb" are words that should be used to describe the performances so far of Touray and Power, not defenders that have been up and down with form and in and out of the team.

 

I think some fans are expecting Prem League standards from a Div 3 defender-Baldwin. He,like every other player in the team, makes mistakes. Overall we have a good solid division 3 defence. City have won 19 of their 24 home games in 2025-I wonder how many of those games Baldwin started when available for selection?

 

If he was to get 2 yellow cards in a game then the yellow cards convert to a red card and his yellow card count returns to 9 so he'd be banned for the 1 game for the red card and still be 1 yellow card away from a 2 game ban.

I can't remember who the player was but there was a player a couple of years ago who got a their 10th yellow card on game 36 then near the end of the match got a 2nd yellow card for blatantly kicking the ball away which got him a 2nd yellow so he was only banned for 1 game and by the time he returned from the ban the 10 card deadline had passed.

 

Joe Wright has had some good games and some not so good. I'm all for giving players backing but he most certainly hasn't been immense IMO. He made Matty Stevens look like prime Drogba and gets bullied by his opposite number far too easily for me. None of our players were great that day, but he was awful against Donny as well.

However, is he better than Byrne and Kelly? Yes, so he's worthy of his spot at the moment. Let's hope that a run of games helps.
