The one question I'd have over Shepherd is why is struggling in league 1 again? He struggled for Cheltenham in league 1 and if what Barnsley fans are saying is right he's struggling in league 1 again. It sounds a bit like Crichlow where he was great in league 2 but struggled in league 1

 

I can understand why he is getting annoyed, it is the same question every week and it's the same answer so what more does anyone expect him to say. We showed last season we can do well without Cook and we've shown it again this season, it's time to move on from it and focus on the players that are playing well. Pattison, Byrne and Kavanagh were big parts of last season but there isn't the same level of obsession with them. It's got to start becoming frustrating for Humphrys as it is distracting from the great work he's done.
I couple of weeks ago I didn't think Cook should leave but now it's getting to the point where it's getting like the Young situation with it being brought up at every interview and it's getting boring so it's probably better for everyone if he does move on.

 

He was doing it all last season the fake OTT diving with the tiniest of nudges from behind, L2 refs seemed to buy it though

The ship has sailed and we've dodged a bullet with Shep imo, signing better options in Tilt and Wright

 

I don't think we're bringing in an established L1 natural goalscorer anyway, we just don't have the money for an Alfie May type signing.

 

Typical Alexander, playing his cards close to his chest, he wouldn't say if Cook was on his way or not in his plans, thats just not his style - he wouldn't want to upset the player or rock the boat with supporters - I'd be amazed if Cook isn't gone in a weeks time.

 

A much as I want to see us sign a proven L1 goalscorer, I think theres probably more chance of an League 2 raid if there is talent that is out of contract in the summer and can play on a variety of positions, its not just the transfer fee's for L1 strikers that we cant afford, its our wage structure that we won't want to break either.

 

League 2 rid would be pointless and a waste of money. We have the best league 2 forward on our books in Cook and he isn’t good enough now. We are in league 1 and aiming for the Championship currently. So we need decent league 1 players or Championship players. It’s all about improving the squad for now and the future.

 

No but Sam Smith was mentioned earlier. If he is available from Wrexham thats as good as we will get and im all for it.

Well he was doing it against Swindon which was what set their players off. He took a pathetic dive against us the other month too.

I wouldnt be against a return because the good outweighed the bad and he would be an improvement on Kelly and Byrne but we can do better.

So let’s say you do know what are you going to do about it ? Cry, protest, not turn up. It’s a footballing decision made by professionals who stand and fall by them .

 

That was over two seasons ago wasn’t it ? Just over three seasons ago Bobby was on loan at Liversedge . Metcalfe was a junior at Everton . Let’s be realistic about young players making their way in the game ?

 

It was the 2nd half of the 23/24 season but it's still something to look at especially if he is struggling with Barnsley now, both Metcalfe and Pointon are showing they can play in league 1 now. I'm not saying we say yes or no to him based on what he did at Cheltenham but we have got to look into it and we can't just sign him because he did well for us last season in league 2

 

Players from L2 can improve us - have a think about where Sarc played most of his career and how important he is to us.

Given our recent track record of spending it seems unlikely the club will want to spend more than lower 6 figures on transfer fees, and would prefer to pick up free's in the summer. Maybe the club will dip into the loan market.

Cook WAS the best finisher in L2, that was before a cruciate injury and age caught up with him.....
