Honohan is going to be a very good signing for them, an all round wing back who can play either side or even in a back 3. A move that's been coming for a bit as Shamrock rejected a bid for him in a summer. If we were in for a wing back I would have loved us to have signed him.

I hope we are looking at the League of Ireland as there is a lot of good talent especially younger talent. If we wanted to go very ambitious then Owen Elding at Sligo should be top of the list, a young forward who can play anywhere on the along the front 3. His Dad played for loads of clubs including Leeds and Preston but moved to Sligo later on his career and they stayed in Ireland, because of that he's eligible for Ireland and Ireland are desperate to get him registered as an Ireland player. In this summer the reports were Sligo were after about £1mil so as I say very ambitious but I'm certain we'd make a very good profit on him.

Another very good young striker is Mason Melia who was at St Patricks but got bought by Spurs for £1.75m at the start of the year then loaned back to St Pats so could be a loan option.

If we were looking at a CM we should have a look at Matt Healy who's only 23 and would suit our midfield well but would need a sizeable fee as he's got another 2 years on his deal at Shamrock.

 

Whoever were going after wont be leaked by the club so any we hear will be rumours

Nobody hangs around training grounds anymore with a set of binoculars, so any "rumour" will either be via Twitter or click bait journalist you like to poo poo.

Like it or not its the way of the world these days, and is the only way a rumour is going to surface.

I love talking about rumors as much as the next person, but with who our owner is, does take a bit of the fun away from it a bit, even when we all know some guys out there that would be highly realistic for us.

The problem we will have in this window is if we are going up against top end sides in this division like Luton, Bolton, Huddersfield, Cardiff as well as lower end Championship sides our "go big" will be normal for them so it will be hard to outbid these sides in transfer fees and wages. What we can't risk is bringing in the players who risk upsetting the togetherness in the squad with a bad character or going big on a player that rips apart the wage structure, once you start going big on 1 player then others will demand it.

 

That's why we should look to utilise the loan market over permanent signings. Permanent ones will be all about the money; with top loans, we can offer top-of-the-table football with genuine pressure in front of big crowds. Heck, teams serious about developing their top players would pay to give them that sort of experience. It's not something replicated across everyone.

 

Despite the cash , Bradford City OR a team on the plummet, Huddersfield and a cluless manager in Grant, meagre crowds booing them off the field during and after the last three games….let me think?

 

This is a very good point.
We could do worse than looking at the loans who are excelling in L2 or lower placed L1 clubs.
Any ideas of names?

We also haven’t signed many loans yet (McIntyre is the only one) and have slots available.

 

I think we should be looking at Premiership or Championship loans rather than those in teams not doing as well as we are. Accepted that there may be the occasional player worth a punt from league 1 or 2 but not where we should be focusing our interest.

 

By the time we get to January a lot can change, even if the likes of Huddersfield are still in the same position if they offer more than we do most players take the money as that pays their mortgage and like a lot of managers they will have the confidence/arrogance that they can turn it around
