    He is I believe
Six months wages is money for old rope in his case
Better than being on benefits, as he does not need to prove he has applied for jobs
I bet we would be lucky to find anything he is good at

Cant believe that Wrexham bought the amount of strikers they had, but there will be him and Hardie at least who should be looking to leave in Jan. Although Wrexham only bought him last Jan for £1.2m, cant imagine he'll be leaving anywhere on the cheap. Similar for Hardie, £700k fee in the summer.

Can’t see it. He’s in fine form for Blackpool right now and crucial to their survival hopes.

It might come down to who we can actually get out. However I’m suspecting Powell and Kavanagh to be the most likely.

Pattison won’t unless there’s either interest or we sign a replacement. He’s not been great this season, unlucky with injuries, but still think he’s important to the squad.

Similarly with Lapslie. Think he still has a part to play and despite season so far, think he still has more to offer.

Byrne I agree on - but just don’t see GA letting him go.

I can see Cookie going and it won't be detrimental to the team. Everyone says it's difficult to sign a striker of proven quality in January. Well we could make some good money here if we sell him to a league 2 side who need one. He's been an absolute colossal for us, but if we're being honest the game in league one has passed him by. I think we should cash in whilst we can. He'll be on decent money so the wage saving and potential transfer fee could go along way to a decent upgrade.

Selling him won’t bring a big return, far from it, only six months of the deal left ( ? ) however it could be lucrative for the player which is deserved. Would he get a deal extension at Bradford City…….Using Smallwood as an example, it tells me not? The latest podcast gets into the topic from memory.

We need to bring in a couple of players with genuine quality. If we finish in the promotion places, we’ll need that quality to ensure we’re properly equipped for the step up. If we don’t, those additions will still be vital in helping us push on strongly next season.

While we’re currently in the automatic promotion places, we should capitalise on that position and strengthen accordingly.

We have to start thinking about becoming a Championship club and that means signing players of that quality.

I love the likes of Cook and Halliday but would they realistically be capable in the Championship? It's ruthless, but necessary, to start looking beyond them.

Such quality won't come cheap though. It will be a test of the owner's ambition for sure.

It's a very weird scenario we find ourselves in and the recruitment guys will have to be really clever i think. Running a comb over the squad, there isnt a great standout that's walking L1 this season. We have a few guys who have ran hot and cooled down a little too, but there's nobody who is lighting it up every week. Certainly not many outside of maybe 2-4 players right now who you'd be happy to have starting in the Champ. That being said, we find ourselves in pretty much the driving seat for the league going into the Jan window.

There's a side of my head that says we might never be in this spot again, take advantage and try make some big moves in Jan.... but the other side says this lot have us 2nd, it's a very inconsistent league but we have found ourselves near the top and is it worth that much altering in Jan if it disrupts the boat? Maybe even disrupts to the point where things start to un-click if we move a lot of new faces in? Not many teams 2nd in the league going into Jan find themselves facing pretty much a 80-90% squad rebuild if they went up, but we kind of are in that scenario.

I wouldn't be moving on Pattison, Cook, Halliday in Jan, guys who have been here a while, probably part of the leadership core in the squad as it might be such a drop in morale around the training ground, it's almost not worth it unless they are dying to leave for gametime. Summer is another story. Guys with recent promotion grind too is worth it's weight, they know the ups and downs. Guys like Powell, Lapslie, Kav, Kelly who aren't in the side and there isnt a great clamouring for, they'll be moved on before the others.

    My thoughts entirely.

One of the biggest issues facing the club is whether the current owner woild be willing to fund the club to the tune of £8 or £10 million a season in the Championship. Personally I don't see it. If we are fortunate to be promoted this season, Rupp will most likely have to sell the club to protect his own pockets! And that assumes that there is somebody willing and able to take the club forward. If I were him, I wouldn't take that risk.

And that takes me back to the likelihood of Rupp spending big in the transfer window to secure promotion this season. It's unlikely in my view. Until there is some genuine interest in buying the club, I can't imagine more of Rupp's money going into the club to warrant a promotion push from Rupp's perspective.

Strongly disagree on this part. I think most teams make big changes when they get promoted I can think of Sunderland this season have made double figure signings and Stockport did when they were promoted. Personally, I think profound changes are always needed when you get promoted, and it's those teams that are loyal to the players that got them there that struggle the most, a bit like Donny and Port Vale this season. We will not be in a bad position in the summer, players OOC that have served their purpose and some in contract that aren't like Oduor, Oliver and Smith in the past who are hard to move on. Football is ruthless, it's one of the only jobs where sometimes the better you do, the more chance you have on losing your job.

Just to add, I'm not saying we'd be in a good position to finance such changes, just that to do well when stepping up it takes change and investment, we are in a position to do one of those things at least.

I agree. As much as I champion him it's clear that GA is moving is in a different direction and moving on Cook should give us scope to bring in a good alternative.

I'm not so sure signing champ players, if you mean on contract, is a good idea.
Quality costs money both in transfer fees and inflated wages.
What if we miss out on promotion and we're left with some duds on big wages? (refer to Luton, Huddersfield etc.)
If we want that sort of quality at this stage in our progression( and yes, I think we do) it would be better getting prem/champ loanees in crucial areas and signing a couple of established league one players on contract to bolster the squad.
That's my opinion though and others like yourself may be willing to gamble.

Dunno if I made my point properly or it was mis-read, but we are on the same lines, no disagreement in there. I'm saying we do this WHEN we are promoted rather than moving 7/8/9 players on in Jan and hoping the bodies that come in run at the same speed. We have a lot we need to move on but we don't necessarily have to commit to a rebuild in Jan. Happily move on the Lapslies of the squad but maybe not the Pattisons or Cooks at this stage, do that in the summer.

I can see him making some moves, but there will be a good 6 or 7 clubs that make bigger moves. It's the gamble isnt it for Rupp? If he spends lets say for examples sake £1m quid, signs 2/3/4 really good CH level players and it works, yes he might not be able to fun a Champ team but we are a hell of a lot more sell-able in CH and that £1m Jan spend might come back and then some.

Yes, I understand that point. January isn't regarded as a buyer's market. There are few exceptional players available with more buyers around pushing up prices and wages. In Rupp's position and with Sharpe's experience, I'd be looking at the loan market in January since that ensures there's no long commitment to the player's wages.

Yes I'm thinking on the same lines. When it's all done, I'd imagine we see maybe 3 or 4 loans in and then the perm deals should be for the no-brainer type moves. If there's someone who comes up who could thrive in L1 and start in the CH, who's maybe out of contract in the summer and we can get on a good rate, then go for it. Other than that, loans are my expectation.
