Depends on the board and where our recruitment team are in terms of thinking ......because should we be up there come Janaury then i doubt they would have been thinking that ..............i can see being brought in for the future in my opinion with the hope they maybe ready now

When you see some of the loan players Bolton and Exeter have used from our last 3 games it does seem an area of recruitment we've failed to exploit. It's said that Alexander doesn't like loan players but there's certainly some quality out there so hopefully January may see a reshift in our position in this area.

Didn’t he once loan Ivan Toney or was he a perm? If he was a loan then you think he’d know the value. We had a fair amount last year tbf.

Not sure tbf, though Ivan Toney certainly had a number of loan spells early on in his career. As others have said we did have a number of decent loans last season who contributed to our promotion so here's hoping something is being planned for January

Was the writing on the wall for Cook and Halliday when GA did a u-turn on Smallwood in the summer and broke up the North East clique, which had quite a bit of influence in dressing room apparently?

Seems that way, and as I alluded to on another thread I'm not sure halliday has been seen since his Barney with Power.

I do think we need to be careful this January, we are desperate in defence with injuries and I wouldn't want to leave us to short.

In reality, in order to bring in the 2/3 players of quality in then I reckon 5 or 6 would need to leave free up both space and funds.

On the other It's no good freshening up the squad for the sake of it. I'd rather have players like cook and halliday on the bench than have them replaced like for like.

If you are wanting them replaced, it needs to be done properly and that will largely entail a phone call to Mr Rupp I'd imagine

A few obvious outs would be Hilton, one of Byrne/kelly, Powell, kavannagh and perhaps Lapslie.

Because we lost all 3 (inc Shepherd). And all 3 needed replacing.

As it stands there's a good 7/8 players needed to be replaced. We're nowhere near a championship squad at the moment, so would you try and limp over the line this season by panic signing, or just make sure we're still in the division next and do all the work in the summer? We'd all like to go up, but realistically the overhaul needed would be massive for one transfer window. When you consider Sarc to be our best player, then it's shows how much work we'd have to do.

As has no doubt been mentioned before, we need a solid spine, a line of consistent 8 or 9 out 10 players from back to front. Get that in place, the other players tend to lift their levels.
Whether this happens in January remains to be seen. If not, it definitely needs to happen in the summer.

We're not gonna commit financial suicide by paying for big money transfers/wages until we know where we stand in the summer. We're not gonna save massive amounts of money letting suggested departures go, compared to what it will take to get championship quality recruits.
I would guess we'll get one or two more 'journeymen' who have league one experience and pad out with a couple of loans in crucial areas.

A few loanees from some Premier League clubs and we should be ok. This policy of signing players will be our downfall. The loan market is there for a reason and Graham needs to stop his 'reported' ridiculous view on them

Loans make the most sense in our situation. Lets face it, if we keep pace this season then this squad will need a complete rebuild to stand a chance in the champ, so they might think twice about committing a lot of money in Jan unless there's a no brainer available who could play in the CH or L1 next season.

I doubt very much that we'll be bringing in many permanent players in the window. It's hardly a buyer's market in January and I don't see any pressing need to spend a load of dosh to reinforce a promotion push.

There's a strong case and opportunity in the summer to reinforce and improve the squad from what we have today. But again, I expect the focus to be on continuing to stabilise us and to become established as a Div 1 club.

I am glad I am not making the decisions
If come 31st December we are still sat in the playoffs, do we stick or twist
We might not get off to such a good start again
Reaching the championship will bring great financial rewards and could trigger interest in a change of ownership and possibly greater advancement

What 'great financial rewards' come from being in the Championship? The facts suggest that the opposite is true.

Almost all Championship clubs have to be be subsidised and supported financially by their owners to the tune of many millions every season. They are money pits and depend on owners with deep pockets to sustain them.

And it’s not like crowds will go up either.

We are pretty much at capacity now.

This myth that the higher you get the more money you make is laughable.
The higher you get the deeper the owners pockets need to be is more accurate.

As you say, without a very beneficial owner we are destined for only one outcome.

Hence my posts earlier saying I don't think we are looking for promotion this season

A few more seasons in league 1 is probably on the cards

January will not bring any high fliers to the club

I'll take that sort of clique again if it gets us promotion ;).
