Seems like no one at the club got the message! Early days, but this season could end up being a memorable one for the right reasons.

Well done City! The support has been terrific as well; it's been very nice to see (and hear) a packed VP. Long may that continue.

This was the 3rd time we've begun a season 7-2-1; best was 8-1-1, which we've done twice. It makes the rest of the season so much easier. Scoring rate is up, and the defence remains good. It's also good to see that we've already come back to win twice when trailing in a match. I just hope we can continue to cope with the injuries. So far so good, but we really don't want any more.

At what point do our expectations change/increase?

Our current points per game puts us on course for 106 points over the season. Now obviously that isn't going to happen.

But over the last 10 years (COVID season excepted), the average points for to achieve the below are:

Automatic Promotion - 91 points, with a peak requirement of 98 (!) points, and a minimum of 85 points. (Median being 91 - I didn't realise quite how high the bar for the top 2 in this league is).
Play Offs - 75 points, with a peak requirements of 83 points and a minimum of 69. (Median being 74)

To achieve the play off figures, we need approximately 52 points to be in with a shout of 6th - that would work out at 1.44 points per game. Over a season that would equal 66 points in the upper midtable range.

To give ourselves a shot at the automatics, we probably need another 68 points - 1.89 points per game. That would be 86 points over a season, so still very high play off form - this will be much tougher.

We've given ourselves a really, really solid platform in these opening ten games. I'm still of the view we will meander back towards midtable at some point, but when do we start to think this could be an exciting year again?!

If we're still in top 6 come January and in a position to strengthen i think we have every right to get a little excited

I haven’t seen anyone to be scared of. VP has been a fortress and our away form has improved.

at the start of the season i took the view 10-12th would be a great season. I now hope we’re top six minimum. Keep it up City.

my biggest worry is not whether our form peters out, but if Pointon and Neufville will still be here beyond January!

    Good stuff.

Scenario: If we can win ALL our home games there is 54 pts up for grabs there. We are averaging 1.6 games away from home which, if we could continue the trend, would give us 29 points from the remaining away games.
That would theoretically achieve your peak play off requirement. Of course we may lose or draw the odd home game which would take us somewhere near your median requirement.

Neuf will likely go to upper CC level for a lot of money is my guess. It’s a case of when ? An astounding bit of business and a three year deal makes it even better! I really like the lad , grounded , professional.

We don’t want him leaving in January full stop! That would seriously disrupt our season, plus you never know we might get promoted as well! He is an integral part of our team. I doubt he would want to leave either. He came to us because he wanted to be part of our journey. I have no idea what we are paying him, but I doubt that was his primary consideration. He is a standout professional, so I doubt he will be going anywhere in January.

I agree but if he carries on like he is doing then the money men will start to circle. Put it this way all the L1 managers are very very aware of him already. Whilst an integral part of our side , £10- £15 million is peanuts to CC clubs . I’m not saying he’s worth that but we all know the silly money flying around when clubs are fighting for the Prem? A stupendous piece of business.

I like Neuf and he's great at this level and he could do a job, probably, against the poorer defences in the Champ. I know the Premier League is streets ahead with quality defences but Neuf didn't get a sniff against Newcastle and I'm wondering if he could manage the top half of the champ. I do rate him but..Just saying.

Absolutely , the Prem is a different ball game. I always thought Livramento (?) was a cart horse defensively but he was Lynford Christie against Neuf . I was careful to suggest CC. I’ve watched a few CC games so far and he’d fit in well.

I think he is a class player, but he is still developing and can only get better provided the environment is spot on. I am not just talking about training facilities, the team fans and manager at City will be a strong pull. Who knows what he will encounter further up the food chain. We will have to wait and see, but regardless of the money I think he will be with us until the end of the season at least.

The numbers don't change much at all if one looks over the whole 44 years of 3 points for a win. An overall pace of 1.61 points per match gets you to the median for 6th, which remains at 74, and 1.87 gets you to the median for 2nd, which drops to 86.

It is indeed a solid platform; now comes the hard part of keeping it going, especially as the rest of the league has now had a good look at us and our playing style. But we have put ourselves into contention for the upper parts of the table, which is a nice position to be in after a promotion.

Can’t help it, already excited - been a joy to watch us so far and we’re winning games even with our injuries.

Whether we’ll keep it up all season, who knows but fully intent on believing it while I can :joy:

Sadly every player has his price :(
Me personally i cant see anyone going in January if we are still up there and if the owner has any real ambition he will give us a decent budger to get over the line ,knowing that any money he lays out will be bought back in next sumner if we stay down.
He is in a win win situation probably for the first time since he took over.
He actually may not need to fork it out if own pocket with the cup runs and the extra revenue coming in now ............the next two games should be pulling in well over the 20k mark.

On "getting excited".... in the last 5 seasons, the team who were top of the L1 table after 10 games have all gone on to get automatically promoted, the last 4 teams all went up as champions. The last team not to do it were Ipswich in the covid cut short season, who weren't even in the play offs by the time that season was called off.

    24/25 - Birmingham (C)
    23/24 - Portsmouth (C)
    22/23 - Plymouth (C)
    21/22 - Wigan (C)
    20/21 - Peterborough (P)

    Wow.
I'm not overestimating our chances but that is an interesting statistic.. but you know what they say about statistics.
Would be great though should it come to be.

Mother of all rebuilds if so! Rupp might be begging for us to drop off form soon when he realises how much we'll need to assemble a champ squad!
