Kavanagh is a forward though and Bobby is not played through the middle so the stat comparison isn’t really meaningful.

but i take your wider point about who has most potential between Cook vs Kav

You are comparing a Forward with a Midfielder. Bizarre.

Any road. Kavanagh will be 4th choice in a few weeks. Pizza cup games and the odd game on the bench.

Agree. Kav isn’t good enough. League 2 player at best.

No I don’t think Cook will get a new deal , especially if there are fitness issues , Kav will have to establish himself in L1 , never mind a new deal?

Agree , there is no guarantee either will get a deal. At the moment I can’t see Kav getting a start tbh.

We play a fluid front 3. That's why the two 10s are vital.
    It's not 1980

The 3-4-2-1 seems to favoured by a lot of teams now. The 4 gives you some presence in midfield and the 2 doing the graft between the 'number 9' and the central 4 pivotal to the success of the formation. Alexander with replacements to keep the press fresh, bringing in Lapslie, Swan and Wright on Tuesday allowing a rotation because that constant press will take its toll.

We should keep Kav and I think he'll get some game time. Some of our fans are very harsh on him; he's a real workhorse up top and got some crucial goals last season (Swindon at home and Carlisle away are the two off the top of my head). An injury to Humphrys leaves us with Swan and a soon-to-be 35 Andy Cook coming back after knocking on a year out.

Kavanagh needs football to develop. A loan to a League 2 side would be a good one for him and us, and would open a space for an addition. Can't see I'm enamoured with Nick Powell though, given his injury record.

Good shout, when he’s fit he needs game time, he’s unlikely to get much anytime soon other than perhaps “ cups”. A loan at a decent L2 side should help?

I don't think any team is going to take Kavanagh on loan when he is injured. Not sure if he will be fit before the window closes.
I think once he is fit we need him for cover anyway, as others have said.

I understand that of course , but where will his game time come in? Let’s assume we have a full compliment available and they all hold their excellent form? Oh and adding Cookie to the mix hopefully, makes his place even more tenuous? I just worry he would struggle to get match fit to be able to provide that cover many speak of . Out on loan with an immediate recall option would get him game time. Two weeks before the window closes and according to GA he’s now in training on grass? Gone are the days where we play reserve fixtures which were an ideal solution. Let’s see how it pans out but he’s soon going to feel sidelined ?

You can only get an immediate recall if he goes on loan to National League or below. That won't happen.

Loans between league clubs are window to window.

He'll be well ahead of Cook fitness wise, and anything could happen to Cook with his injury yet. Then all it takes is GA to tire of Wright, Pointon to take a knock so Swann gets moved out wide (as he played in a lot of the friendlies) and then it's only Kav and Humphrys for the front spot.

It's a long old season and Kav is very good at the grunt work GA loves so much, not to mention he actually has a decent scoring record when he actually plays in the 9 role, albeit at League 2 leavel, so he'll be getting his chance this season at some point - the only reason he hasn't been involved so far is his injury

Andy Cook seems to pop in some strange narratives despite him not putting a foot wrong.
Personally can't wait to see.him back on the bench

I reckon Kav will get a run of starts at some point. Injuries are bound to happen with the way our front 3 are pressing so far this season, it will be a matter of time until changes are needed, especially then the tues/sat runs start in the winter.

His goal record is fairly decent for City too, if you include the EFL trophy it's good at a goal every 224, which puts him at the Alan Connell scoring rate for us (he was every 223 mins). If you take out the EFL trophy, Kav scores every 245 mins for us, which puts him in the Dom Poleon (244 mins) and Michael Boulding (246 mins) goal return rate. Room for improvement and he is still in his learning stages, but as he's on the final year of his contract it's still a big year for him to earn another one.
