It’s a field on a B Road - it’s nowt grand. Without doubt, the owner has got pots and pots of money but his aim is to establish a top academy, develop their own players blah blah blah… it’s too close to London, it won’t work. Question is when he’ll walk away - money won’t matter but there’s no way they’re self-sustainable - the ground is capped at 10k with a max of 8k home.

Seems a very negative outlook about a club that constantly punches above it's weight

Without the current owner, there is no way they could service that sort of debt on their actual income/ crowds, but they are no different from many a club up and down the country.

Using your definition of being able to stand on their feet, almost all Championship clubs and half of Div 1 clubs depend on their owners to fund their losses. There aren't many EFL clubs who do stand on their own feet. That's part and parcel of modern day professional football.

Yes fully understand and agree, but me reply was to the hopes of the owner that they were to be financially sustainable. They are of course , as long as the owners keeps under writing their current losses. As a stand alone entity no they are not and I wholeheartedly agree of the current financial climate of clubs where most are built on quick sand.
A few years ago I could count on 1 hand how many clubs were in or making a profit. I'm not sure they're are many to be honest now, If any at all .
Brighton can't be far away , the amount they receive for players & staff from Chelsea alone.Through your more financial background you'll be more aware than I.
(Your financial post's though over the years are very enlightening to me )

Surely most football clubs throughout the pyramid are now bankrolled at some point.

It's an expensive business. I don't mind it.

What I think needs to happen to avoid Morecambe's Bury's etc is that owners have to submit proper plans to the FA/Football League whoever and the money to fund those plans be transferred in to escrow up front if not paid off directly to fund whatever plans there is. And each wealthy owner should have to pay a certain percentage of what they bankroll into a seperate fund for the clubs ground upkeep (Wednesday)

Just an idea. There's no way you can just ban investment, it's counter productive. But we need to make sure what the owners promise is actually put in and the clubs can survive after.

Don’t they already have to submit finance proposals and funding provisions for three consecutive seasons from the time of purchase?

Don't think the money goes anywhere. So the owners can say all what they want, then just pull the plug. I think anyway.

They do have to pass a fit and proper persons test, which seems to be neither use nor ornament

I didn’t say money went anywhere. I said they submit proposals and how the funding would be “provided” . It’s up to the legislator ie the EFL to do due diligence . For example Sheff Wed ‘s owner had the backing of the world’s largest tuna canning company . On paper they could “ provide” unlimited support but the regulator has little power other than sanctions to “ force” that support.

Couple of stats from the EFL stat pack that make for positive reading.

    • Bradford will begin a third-tier campaign on home soil for the 24th time in club history, winning 18 of their prior 23 openers at this level (D2 L3).
    • Wycombe have previously started an EFL campaign on the road 11 times, winning just two of those matches in the process (D4 L5).
Going on these stats it should be a banker home win

Kone off to Swansea if they’ve let Yates go to Luton. Here’s to hoping, either way the lad if he plays won’t wanna get injured!

Leicester all over him as well. O'Rourke has confirmed so it will be legit.

Hopefully if he plays today his hesd has been turned.

Ahead of kick-off this afternoon, we will pause for a minute’s applause to remember our associate director, Roger Owen, who sadly passed away in June.

Well, watching England bowl terribly and forget how to catch is not putting me in the sporting mood for thus aft! Fingers crossed the chickens look better later on.

Gone for a draw in the predictions, can never tell how these first few games go, still a bit preseason like in the play sometimes whilst they are still getting used to each other and the refs over use every new rule and blow the whistle every 45 seconds.

Like you I think a draw but it’s not in my idiotic nature to forecast anything other than a win . ;)
